Hello all I have a question:
Heavy storm this afternoon here in Dubrovnik. My K 100 parked on the street stayed in water over the exaust for half an hour. Finally I pushed bike in the garage on higher level I tried to start. It started imediatelly, water went out and engine idled with a lot of white smoke. Idled for half an hour and everthing seemed ok.
My question is: what to check, water in diff, water in transm, water in engine oil? Do I need to clean front wheel shaft?

Any suggestion welcome. Best regards.

I'm guessing that, given the seals on transmission, final drive etc are there to keep oil inside, it's unlikely that they'll let water in from outside either.

Not sure about the wheel bearings, possibly the same applies there too?

I would drain final drive---- water could access through breather:o--o: Gordon

Ah. Yes, forgot about that breather!

Mea culpa.

You also got the breather for the gearbox, under the starter motor.
Water contaminated oil will turn gray (motor)...matt brown/gray (gear).

Thanks. I was worried for the clutch asembley - there is a hole down between engine and transm, so I went for an hour ride to dry clutch. I ll change oil in gearbox and diff today.

Just dip the gearbox and take the filler out of the F-D. If as Inge says the oil looks like an emulsion, drain, flush and replace but if it looks like oil still, I'd leave it until it's next due a change.

I just checked gearbox and diff:

1. white yellow emulsion in gearbox so I changed oil

2. oil in diff look OK, but I changed

Is there a way to check engine oil without draining (its new oil inside)

just look at the glass mate. you ran it long enough for the glass to cloud over if it has water in it.

Or just remove the oil filler cap and run it at 100mph for 68 minutes. That should evaporate out any water in the oil
