Hello!

I'm new to the forum and new to the 2 wheel game.

I am an avid BMW (cage) enthusiast and am looking to possibly start a k75 project bike.

I am mechanically inclined but not so much with a welder (yet!)

I am at a crossroads trying to find out how large the headache is to build a k75 custom bike for myself, partially for fun, partially as hobby.

I love the exposed 3 cylender engine, but i also like the tranny design of a cx500.

My biggest aim right now is to discover if there are hurdles with large lerning curves in the K75 such as electrical, harness hell, high tech canbus systems, or what have you involved in the bikes electrical/ecu to allow the bike to run vs say a cx500.

Your wisdom is why i am here.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
No big learning curve, the only electronics of concequence is the L Jetronic FI which is similar to the BMW cars of the mid 80s and no bg deal. Canbus technology didnt reach the bikes till about 2002-3 so it's all straight forward stuff.

That's great to hear.

How do you think the bike will act say without the instrument cluster, or ignition?

Would the bikes sensors and starters play nice with very basic aftermarket ones or without any at all?

Appreciate your wisdom!

Probably pay to start a new thread but a search will unearth some others who have done similar but basicly you can do what you want to do without much trouble.

I had the instruments off my K100 the other day and it started and ran fine on the stand so I can't see why it should be a big issue. For reference the reason they were removed is that I need to fix the odometer gears before I can get it passed for roadworthiness here as it is currently unregistered.

Welcome Along - there have been plenty of custom, cafe racer and bobbers done so there should be some paths for you to follow if you're going down that route. Enjoy the forum.

Sweet! I think the only nonmechanical parts are fuel injection and abs control.

Wondering how abs will function without a cluster and or how I will be warned if it's out. I guess I can try to tack down the warning light wire and build one.

No reason the ABS wouldn't work without the cluster but as you say you need the warning light and reset switch.
