ok I read Inge K's various feed's , and thanks for them Inge.

My fan is not running.
It was stuck but I freed it up and it is not moving freely.
I ran the engine until it was nearly in the red but fan not running.
Is it a case of removing tank to get at relay.
Can I get at the fan connector by removing the right side lower fairing.

On a K11, you find the fan connector under the tank.

Since the fan was stuck, have you checked the fuse?
Easy check, horn test, same fuse....

The Motronic unit grounds the relay coil via pin 2.

Could also be a idea to check the temp sensor/connections, pin 21 and 32...
compare with the temp/resistance values found in the troubleshooting diagram
at the portal.

I found the fan connector under the tank.
tried 12v on it and nothing happens.
Am pretty sure it's the correct connector and wire's go straight to motor.
so looks like a new fan ....

I have a K100 fan sitting in my shed if it is the same one. Got it from Motorworks in February. No need for it as it was for the K100 which is now off road.

Seems to be same for K75 K100 and K1100
Looks like we might have a go.

Yes Inge,
I was coming to that idea myself.
It seems as if one brush is in contact as I can hear it but with 12v on the connector....zilch.
what a pity.
I got the back off the fan motor but it is impossible to remove it completely without moving the radiator forward......
so I will leave it for now and put it all back together for the weekend coming.
Then we will see what to do

I am away all day Tuesday, heading to Limerick early for 9am meeting and taking the bike. I could get it in post on Wednesday or could take it some of the way up........

The fan is only really an issue if you are sitting or idling in traffic. Once moving the fan is not used. I was able to keep the K out of the red by cutting the engine in heavy traffic. If you have a temperature gauge you could probably manage this quite well. If the weather is not as hot as recently and you are doing a straight run with little slow driving you will probably get by.

Indeed it's only been noticeable lately in the warm weather....certainly I did'nt notice it before.
At least I know what it is now.
just got to avoid stopping and traffic lights...that'll be more fun anyway
