Well thank you all very much. Allow me to introduce to you
the latest compulsion purchase, from a dubious source, with less than pedigreed papers. But it kind of starts, won't run, suspect fuel pump and despite high K's, sounds good, is black (needs repainting) brakes work, newly up holstered gel seat and cost $1,000.00. Just something about him that said BUY ME.
And as SWMBO has figured out that I'm at my best when busy figuring out why things don't work, viola, there it is.

The frame says Lt, the bars say LT, the fairing says RT, the glovebox surrounds say AAAAAAARRRGH holes everywhere. I'm not sure, when I get my glasses on and in sunlight I might get the vin number sorted.

The plenum has been removed so that the old owner can sprinkle some fuel in and crank it up, god forbid some crap went in there over the last few days.

And the BMW plaque on the left hand side crankcase is RED can you believe it. Must go like the clappers.

And here I was feeling sorry for myself after collecting my "new" K75RT from Sydney last weekend.

At least it is registered and got me home in one piece. Lots of cosmetics require a bit of TLC and if I ever come across the clown who did the conversion back to dual seat, I'll string him up by his goolies.

Parts missing, R series indicators, wood screws, imperial fasteners on a metric bike. The list goes on............ relax. Now take a deep breath and count to ten. Exhale slowly. Time for your tablet, Mr Tackler.

I also notice RT that one of the insidious mental side effects is that you double up on posts

Thanks Blakey, something went wrong on my new pink laptop.
Here is the dilemma, I think I can get it running with a fuel pump cleanout/replace. But should I do that?, surely I should be pulling everything apart and cleaning, repainting etc. What to do what to do.

Help you make informed decisions like should you buy a pc or laptop. Should you paint the bike or start it.

My opinion?

Methodically pull it apart, clean everything, use that stuff that I'm always going on about, change/replace all fluids and at the end of all this, if it doesn't run, at least you'll know what you have done. From there, troubleshooting will be easier.
Keep the posts coming, as there are a few of us out there basically doing the same thing. You may think "why would anyone want to know that?", but someone will learn something.

It's good to see that another K is being kept on the road.

I go away for a week and this happens! Well done RT. At least the speedo should go well...ex police. Keep us informed. I know how to change that black to orange.

Thanks Stan, I will be asking for colour advice at some stage, although a new black always looks good until the first chip.
So far I can see the indicators work but don't flash off/on/off/on etc, must be a gremlin there as well.
Luggage is off and all the wiring looks pretty good, had a radio at some stage so a few loose ends in there. Can't wait to get busy, but have to pace myself.

Sorry I didn't ask if anyone else was interested but found it on Gumtree and out of curiosity made the call. An impulse buyer you might say.

OMG a complete unbroken rt screen. how sweet it is. There was a scratch removal segment on dream car garage last month here in the hunter channel 62 regional, they used 4 or 6 steps to polish it back to reasonable health, wish you had seen it, I have an aversion to power tools but they used a 9inch angle grinder with a mop on it to do the job seemed to be a slow reving power tool though.

RT, I know what you mean about pacing yourself. I got into trouble for finishing mine too quickly. Make lists and do not put anything in a safe place.......you will never find things for years.

The indicators not flashing on and off is a sign that the indicator relay needs to be replaced. Same problem on my airhead.

Nice project, I had a look a week ago at the dam and got the seat from him. Had to give him my old seat and $150. You now have my old seat mate. It has been recovered and has a gell insert in it and the ridge was also moved back 2 inches to creat leg room.

Making a list is good advice. My problem is every time I scratch one thing off the list it adds two more. Seems the more you wiggle in quicksand the quicker you sink.

I just watched a youtube video where a heat gun turned oxidized black plastic back to nice black. May work on the shield. When I get a chance I will try it on my Seca 650 Turbo that is very hazy.

The front X frame fairing support is broken and the seat doesn't sit right but it looks pretty comfy.

Yeh I know what you mean I went past twice before going in, it was 47 deg I only had thongs on and was very worried about snakes. I was sure I could hear banjo's playing. It never sat right on my bike aftyer it was recovered. When it was recovered he pulled it too tight and bowed it a bit. It fitted OK with a lambs wool cover on.

It looks like a corban but has no name. The one you have is OK but not 100% fit. I am going to reshape this one myself moving the ridge back to get it 100% comfortable before I get it recovered. I have photos but can not attach them.

I think the arm holds the seat open.

Thanks Waz, looks a bit more comfortable, but I like to keep it so no pillion is tempted.
On removing body panels I find the mounting holes of the front fairing have all been broken, something happened to this bike. Luckily I think I can do some glassing or something and get it fixed. Also think there is a car battery in there as well. Too wet to play, and my De oxit supply has run out.

Getting somewhere, have the fuel pump out and bench tested, new fuel filter (old one was really clogged), just need to get power through the 4 pin connector.

Under the tank is a mess. Can't figure out what this blue connector is, should I be rejoining all those wires?


I also have found 4 relays across the front wall, 3 I can identify as normal, the 4th is newish and black. There was a radio in at some stage. Camera battery died so no photo.


And look how clean inside the tank is, my first bonus.

Rear brake line is leaking, just another small job.

And now a tip for the newbie. DO NOT USE PLASTIC GOLF TEES to plug your fuel rail when the hose is off.

Blue connectors (and relays) is normally ABS, but since it's a former police....
you never know.

Yay, 4 new throttle body clamps arrived today (Suzuki part no. 0940248208), screw tight types, black.
Now I can get to work on the following problem.
Electrical. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh.
The fuel pump works out side the tank (direct battery tested), the low fuel light comes on (no fuel in tank) so I can see that there is some power to the tank wiring connector, but the pump doesn't work on ignition testing.

So,following the problematic schematics ( geez I sound intelluctual) I,m going to check
if I have a faulty sidestand switch ( stops power to the pump, although sidestand is up at the moment), all fuses have been replaced (no.7 was frizzed).
Horn works, all lights and indicators turn on, but no high beam, flashing of indicators or hazards, at the moment. I replaced the bulb monitoring unit with a spare, but don't think I had the ignition all the way on on testing. (see the last sentance).

Are any of these things interconnected or ring a bell to anyone, I'm hoping for a short out, bad relay or something to help narrow things down. I'm going to have to move the bar fridge, it's too close to the workbench.

You need to press the start button to make the pump run.

Sorry Rick shudda mentioned that I was doing that, so no power getting to the pump, but the fuel low light works so I'm a bit confused as to where the problem lies. The fuel tank connector looks suspect and I don't really know how to check if there is a problem in the connector without having the starter pressed and having a multi meter attached to the earth and pump live wire, I guess, just musing as it's pouring again.



The Suzuki air hose clamps.

Check you have volts at the tank connector part of the harness and if you have it there connect eth and +12v to the connector on the tank (make sure its the correct wires) and the pump should run, if not then either pump or wires internal and if it does run then the connector is at fault.

Which clamps did you get RT? The big ones or the small ones? Part number?
I got the 46mm for the lower end of the rubber and 58?mm for the upper.

the uppers are Suzuki part No. 0940248208 48mm
the downers are No.0940246208 46 mm
cost me $7.00 each but they look a bit like a Bunnings hose clamp (only black, and have that extra tongue to ensure all round grip. He says.)

I think they are getting a bit scarce, off some sort of GS Suzuki.

before beers one day gave those measurements. Talk to some non drinker like Rick G or Inge for any info past last Saturday.

I don't want any parades to get wet by falling precipitation RT, but I think there are two sizes needed for the TBs. The upper (lets call them red) are bigger than the 'ludes (blue lower ones).
Just trying to hunt out the invoice from suzuki. Not a lot of luck.

offered to calm me down at the moment. This seems much more trickier than it looks.
I have read a few others' efforts but they all seemed to have more trouble with the top big airbox clamp. What am I missing? ( apart from hair and a waist, just in case the snipers are awake).

dang ...i know the feeling bob ....mine were also extreemy difficult to replace ...young alby (muscleman ) did the job .....but what i could suggest is some form of slippery stuff on the insides of the rubber tubes or the outside of the plenum tubes (no not vasolene ...deteriorates rubber )....something that dries out quickly ..but wont get into the tricky bits lower down and cause damage if it does ...maybe that lanoteck stuff ...or possibly rp7 (sparingly ) maybe could help ?

bought some Lanox MX4 recently, all natural lubricant , supposedly OK as an anti corrosive protectant as well, not yet tried..or proven
I have tried other Lanolin products before in lieu of WD40 and the likes , good results were acheived.
maybe some merit in it, straight off the sheeps back!

What about spitting on the rubber, but you must first have sufficient fluid in your mouth of the alcoholic type that is.

Looks to me like an LT comfort seat thats been recovered at some stage. Looks like a fairly common Holden grain vinyl that trimmers would use for any general job.

RT, Mr Chivas will not help in this case. Unless it is used to flame the area.

Please contain the laughter, but puckering is the problem I found. One little bit of that rubber ring will sit under the throttle body and just not let the damn thing sit right.

Solution is to take too long glasses of Mr Chivas, or is that 2, long glasses? you will sort it out.
but the damn things like to let a bit of the lip fold under on any one of the tb's and that will stuff you every time.
