Hi, I'd like to introduce myself all the good folk on the K100 forum. My name is John and I am from Carnforth, Lancashire, UK. Just bought a 1985 K100RT off my brother in law for the princely sum of £500. I have yet to get it from my brother in laws in Lincolnshire up to mine in Lancashire but it won't be long. There are a few bits that need doing to her to get her back to full health. It needs a new fuel pump (a common problem I've noticed!!!) as it cuts out when it gets hot and the clutch needs some attention whether its adjustment or new plate (these are the faults my bro in law has told me). Everthing is standard and my brother in law has had it for 12 years and it has been garaged and well looked after. I have already gleaned a few gems of wisdom just by reading this forum and I can't wait to get my hands dirty and bringing her back to pristine,

John Smile

Hi John welcome to the Knuthaus.

Well I have booked the courier and they have told me they will be delivering the bike either at the end of the week or possably the beginning of next week. I am one exited man. I have since found out the fuel pump only plays up when the fuel is low thus overheating and the clutch only slips and probably just needs adjusting. My brother in law has had this bike since 1996 and never done a stroke of work on it himself, it was always done at the local motorbike shop but got quoted silly money for the fuel pump so he has bought a new bike (Honda this time I'm afraid!). I think I will just need to adjust the clutch, keep it topped up with fuel and MOT and tax it and I will be out on the road. I can sort out the glitches in the winter. Photos to follow next week :-)

Apparently the fuel pump onlyoverheats and plays up when the fuel in the tank gets low. It's fine when there's plenty of fuel in. Any ideas Rick???????????? Just a pump replacement or can you strip them and clean them??

If the pump is cutting out when its hot then its probably had the fritz.
Before you go any futher have a look at the portal page and check out the thread "you just bought a K100 so what now" It gives you a lot of very good info for a new K owner.
Motobibs has most of what you want http://www.motobins.co.uk/ and I have bought a lot of K electrical gear form EME http://www.euromotoelectrics.com/ both have quite reasonable prices but motobins will probably be a better bet for you.

Hi John,
Good to have you with us and look forward to reading your posts in the technical section. Unless you are certain that the fuel pump is faulty the Hall effect switches can cause the fuel pump to cut out if they are faulty because if they stop sending ignition pulses the controller shuts off the fuel pump. Lots in the technical section about checking the Hall sensors
Regards,
K-BIKE

Looks like she has a leak on the final drive but she is all there and nothing that a good dose of TLC won't cure. Happy days

Wearing her age well like you say some TLC and it will be a head turner again.
Have you been to the portal page and read through "you just got a K100 so what now" it is a worthwhile read written by one of the K100 gurus as a what usually needs doing.

Thanks Rick, I think I have read every page of this forum whilst waiting for her to arrive. Going to give her a wash and take her for her M.O.T. test and see if she needs anything to be roadworthy. I don't think she does but you never know. If she passes the test II'll put some road tax on it and run it for a while to se if it need anything else and then I can work away on her over the winter

Welcome Slazzman, from NZ. nice bike, yeah fuel pumps seem a regular issue item. My RT runs out with quiet a few litres left in the tank, must be the inlet up offf the bottom a bit, took 18 litres thats all, I think the tank is 23 litres? she surges as she gilps air an petrol but seems to do 30 km like that. A good lean to the left helps.
Have fun, they a awesome machines.

Well the old girl flew through the MOT test and she is now taxed. It also looks 10 times better for having a good engine degrease and a wash. I'm going to run her now till the winter then maybe strip her down and get her painted and polished up.

Status Quo seem to have moved to Australia in their dotage and now do ads for a cheap supermarket chain. You'll be pleased to know their riffs haven't changed. Not a bit. Not even an octave lower. Nope.

Dump da dump da dump da dump....
