Thank you for the welcoming and compliment on great looking bike.
In quite mint condition, with comfort saddle and 105.000 Kms first registered October 1986.
Two preceding owners.
Price asked was € 1.200  I didn't want to insult the seller with a cheaper bid.  Worth every € cent of it.  IMO
So at 61 I can finally afford the bike I was dreaming of at 35.  Smile
I thought I bought a touring road bike, but 0-100 Km/h in 4.1 sec is only .1 sec more than the MK3 Kawasaki 500 I rode in 1975 !!!
Love the low rev torque 50 Km/h in 5 th.
My first bike with fairings, a lot more comfy in "rainy" Belgium.
Takes a bit of breaking in for the pilot used to slightly lighter bikes before :  Horex 450, Kawa 500, Suzuki 400 twin, Honda 350 & 750 Four, MZ 250.

Hello Yves,

Welcome from another new member who like you took many years to get the machine he wanted years ago.

You have a fine example of a wonderful road bike.  The Fairings are very good at keeping the worst of the weather off you.

Enjoy and use this very helpful resource.

Thank you all for great welcoming.
About the color, I fell in love with it long ago, a BMW exclusive.
Beer (s) hundreds of different brands, and the very best chocolate in the world. (Sorry Switzerland). Also, "french" fries are a Belgian original, and we have great tennis women too.
Looks like I need to find or make a swirling BMW logo with an Atomium or Maneken pis soon. Wink

Hi Yves,

I have just bought a very similar bike to yours through Ebay - I have not seen it yet! It will be a couple of days before I can collect it, but it is the bike I dreamed of many years ago. BMWs were well out of my reach in the early 90s. Depreciation has meant that I can now afford to make a purchase, so let us hope that the reality is equal to the dreams we had decades ago.

Best wishes for you and your new machine.

Thanks man.
Is the deal done 100 % ?
If so could you post a link to the add on Ebay if the add is still up ?
The next couple of days will seem to stretch like forever. Wink
I get to go out with a 27 y/o youngster lady K at 61, not bad.
At least you've ridden similar bikes in your active duty, you know how great they are and feel.
I had to imagine everything and rely on videos to learn more about the K.
Belgian Police still has a few of them, you'll see them at the July 21 th parade, with the old timers Harleys.
On June 26 I drove 80 Km to test drive and buy it, I thought it would fit in my T4 VW Transporter.
Too tall ! even if I had removed the windshield. Paid for it, got papers, and left it there till I got Licence plate and insurance.
Went back to bring it home last Monday.
Presently sweating out to level a parking space on this sloped parcel in rocky grounds, and then out for a ride in this very scenic Meuse Valley hilly region.
Working on a keen way to fix my micro cam between the fairing and the left mirror too.
Enjoy your retirement, time at last to spend on what you like.

Nice K. But you must agree it sounds much better than the Kawasaki triple, they sounded like they had a load of tin cans rattling along the road after them, when you gave them gas, at about 18 miles per gallon.....

Especially if you revved it up to 10.000 RPM to reach 100 Km/h in First.
I just love the K "wüüü  wüüü"  melody mixing with the "ffffwwwiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" sound of the wind exiting the top of the windshield.
About guzzling gas the blue Kawa Mach 3, it was 16 L / 100 Km  =  4.22 US Gallons for 62.5 Miles. (go figure).
The tank capacity was 10-12 L maybe, not enough to ride 100 Km to the coast from Brussels on one tank.
It also used a bit of expensive 2 stroke oil.
Not to mention only drum brakes front and rear.
Plus a frame too light and elastic requiring a steering shock damper to quieten the wobbling at high speed .
120 Kg light for 60 HP no electric starter.
Gee, I was 25 then, riding in all weather without fairing.
I still have a 1975 Suzuki 550 GT (same 3 cylinders 2 stroke) in bad shape that would cost more to fix than I paid for my Beemer.
It's up for grab (You haul it).

Yves, I collected my new toy last night, and I am very impressed. She is just so comfortable, and it is a real joy to sit behind the fairing when on the open road. I cruised at 5,000 rpm all the way home on a summer's evening with no problems at all.

I was a bit concerned about the weight, but as soon as the bike is moving it is so well balanced that the mass is not noticed. I borrowed a Suzuki 650 Bandit last week and that was much harder to ride at low speed: the throttle response was so quick, and the transition from closed to open throttle so immediate, that slipping the clutch at low speeds was a real trial. The K has much better manners.

The only regret I have is that I waited too long before I returned to motorcycling; now I must make up that lost time.

welcome Yves, nice bike. Agree the Ks sound nice and the RTs are great in the rough weather and at high speeds, love mine. I wreckon about 46mpg generaly, shes geared to cruise nicely at 5000rpm, 120km/hr but as our limits only 100km/hr I cruise at 4200 rpm 110 km/ph indicated which is 100 true.
The bikes are light by modern 1000cc+ bikes, the new teriumph shaft tourer $38000NZD and over 300kgs.
theres a few K1200RS and Lts on the market here, a nice 2002 about $10000, its a no brainer in my book, great value.
safe travels

Same here, self employed in commercial, and industrial refrigeration, I was too busy and didn't even ride my old 250 MZ since 1993. (shame)   Sad
Someone stole the licence plate years ago in the yard...
So it was a challenge when I test drove the Beemer in a small village at low speed, but except getting lost in that unknown place (many U turns) all went well, and I sealed the deal and paid for it without hesitating.
Pre-retired, I enjoy what is the beginning of the so called "Golden years" with lots of free time (Ah ! the single life !) keeping active earning extra money in the stock market.
So far, so good, it already paid for the K, the insurance, licence plate and all the gas I could burn till year's end.  Smile
I wish I started trading 20 years earlier too, like buying the K, but no regrets, life goes on and we must get the most out of it.
Going for a ride right now.

He was asking € 1.500 2 weeks ago, € 1.100 last week, now € 975, I guess he needs the cash really bad.

It looks good but is there something suspicious about the number plate? Is it far from you?

The add says he is willing to replace the battery, or discount the price of a new one, but states that for the rest it is in good condition, regularly being serviced and was always kept indoor.
He says he is open to an offer too.
I wouldn't think it has paper ID problem, Belgium is a "police state" all vehicle transactions are drastically monitored, you can't register or insure anything that hasn't been cleared by authorities here.

He lives about 100 Km from my place near Leuven, but I could give the buyer a call (I speak Flemish) if you need more info.

I've seen the rear view pic without licence plate.
He probably mounted it on his new bike, usual practice here, you keep the plate when you switch bikes, or cars.
The add says NO rust perfect condition...
