Hi folks,

plan to go some trip in a week, but unfortunately, my fork gets leak.

So, I need to change fixed tube because on rust.
And question arrive, could I take the fixed tube out, and use fork seals later again?

The rust will have damaged the seal and it will leak if you use it again.

If the tube [stanchion] is bad it will damage a new seal. You could get them rechromed.

in one week before trip? it's not real. As a chanse to get new seal (
Does anybody have experience with some Jap bikes forks seals?
Saw some sizes like 41-54-8

The seals are 7.5mm, I tried using 8mm and it was such a tight fit that I decided not to go ahead but if you needed to use them you could take .5mm from the underside of the seal.  I cant think of a reason the sealing lip would not work as they are all plunger hydraulic seals.

main question in diameters. 41 instead of 41.7 - would it be safe for a seal?
also 54 instead of 55 (as I remember). Seems that it can be bit small(

That wont work if it is 1mm too small. Have you tried the people who sell bearings the range of seals is extensive.

41.7 is very close in size to 1 5/8 inches which is a common size for shaft seals.

New seals will work for a while as in long enough for the trip but will not last very long. Maybe just replace them and see how it goes. But you must use the correct diameter.

main point, that new fixed tube will arrive tomorrow, but seal are nor available in Moscow shops/dealers(

Mr. VPutin, if you cant find suitable fork seal you can tight a spring inside existing seal. Cut the little circular spring and then tight a bit and connect again like any wire. I did that way three or four years ago: still in place no leaks, no need for new one, even I have new pair.
