Good morning.

I'm not here to put anybody's nose out of joint, so I'll confess straight away that I actually ride a K1100, NOT a K100 :oops:In my defence I'll say that my previous bike WAS a K100.

The current ride is a '97 K1100LT SE. The SE stands for Special Edition, which means, amongst other things, that it came fitted with a radio cassette player. About the most useless bike accessory I can think of, with the possible exception of an ashtray. Or air conditioning.

A group of friends and I have ridden around a bit, sometimes in northern Europe, mostly in the UK. Our UK trips are often to race circuits to support one of our group who races a 250 Yamaha at club level and is currently the National Champion in his class.

When I find out how to post pictures on here I'll give it a go.

Latest adventure into the mechanicals of the bike was to replace a badly slipping (oil contaminated...) clutch, along with the engine side oil seal, and sundry other perished rubber items.

That's about it.

See y'all soon.

Hi Ya Keef welcome to our Knuthaus.
You'll be OK with that K1100 I have one and they havent kicked me out yet.
Mind they are just a cut above the old K100s:Silence:

I think the K1100 slips in because the Clymer K75/K100 workshop manual also includes the K1100.

Thanks for the warm welcome folks, much appreciated.

As soon as I can figure out how to post a few pics, I will.

Michael, fix that clutch! Mine started slipping as you described, a big fistful in, (slightly...) too high a gear, revs rose, speed didn't. Bu99rit. Things got progressively worse until overtaking in even 2nd or 3rd became a bit of a pain. Once we had it apart, the sight was, quite frankly, scary! The entire inside of the bell-housing was covered in a filthy black oil residue, the friction plate was black too and it all smelled bl00dy horrible.

The crankshaft oil seal was brittle! Not a good thing in an oil seal. Whilst we were digging about in the bike's internals, we also found the clutch pushrod bellows were perished, the engine breather tube across the middle of the airbox likewise, the TPS needed resetting. Which meant that the throttle bodies needed re-balancing... Be prepared to find similar hiccups while you've got the back end off!

All in all a worthwhile exercise, total cost about a hundred and fifty quid, several sociable evenings and a nice smooth-running, easy-shifting bike to ride again! Laughing

Well if you can't chase down a couple of young ladies on a scooter with the 1100 you're in trouble! Welcome along as a k1100 rider you'll have plenty of company here.

Chasing 'em and catching 'em is not a problem. Trouble is, I'm so old, I keep forgetting why I chased 'em in the first bl00dy place! :silent:

Welcome aboard Keef from another K1100LT rider - although in my defence I do have a K100RT also - nobody here has held it against me so far. Enjoy your time here with the most knowledgeable bunch of "K"nutters you are ever likely to meet Wink

welcome Keefk1100lt, sound k ish enuf to me mate. Love watching then UK racing on Skdy sport, Knock hill last week, looks so competitive, a couple young K Iwis doing the euro circuit at mo Croft racing, not doing to good but having great fun. I did some UK , Ireland, France, spain Italy Reichen pass Germany last year, loved it, camping mainly on boxer RT1100, wished I had my K, but the boxers are good on gas but not gasolenie which is diesel in Italy ouch flushed her out. i was directed to the pump by the rip garage owner who charged me 20 euro to siphon the tank. She missed a bit until I topped her up. Need to get back, loved IoM last year, Bruce anstey was crook this year but still did well, his dad is a mate of mine.
wouldn't min an LT oneday but happy with my K100 RT.
