I'm sorry if this is a repeat thread from somewhere else on the site.
I've just done the shims on my 8v RS and that's all good. But the shim kit I have responsibility of(not mine) is drastically in need of certain shims and has an abundance of others.
I need some 2.35s, some 2.50s, some 2.55s and some 2.60s.
I have an abundance of 2.65s.
Anyone interested?
Al

perhaps a Sydney maintenance day would be in order where we could;
check tolerance of valve settings which may allow a swap to reset the shim count....at the very least it would show if shims need to be purchased....
What do you think?

I have a few 255 and 250 that are excess but only 1 235. I will bring some down in sept and do some heavy wheelin and dealin.
I can post if you want then sooner.
BTW now that I have done a head reco on my K11 I may be needing some 16v buckets do you guys have any of those.

Having just done the shims on my 1100 I have a few leftovers.
2.95 x 1
2.90 x 7
2.75 x 1
Speed isn't important on the others, I haven't got anybody looking for them at the moment but I've got none of those sizes (its the clubs shim kit, I just look after it). The factory kit contains 4 of each size, I topped it up a few years ago with a bunch of Yamaha XJ shims.
Looking like there could be a mini swap meet too!

That's a good idea, just have to find out who's interested. I've got the shims, the tools and a set of mercury sticks for throttle body synch. Some people might need a set of cam cover gaskets if they've hardened up too much, mine were very borderline today.

I'll keep those in mind AL if I need any of the sizes I have all 16 from the second head and havent been through them yet.
The head I am using had all 285 or 290 in it and one was a bit iffy with some case hardening starting to flake.

2 weeks is the Casper Rally for me, but 29/30 I'm clear.
The bikes need to be cold for clearance checking so some time is required even though it's a fairly easy job. The rubber gaskets get less flexible with age so it's a maybe. Mine have sealed OK with a smear of silicon. I've had few overheating episodes which might have had some effect on the gaskets too.

I have many 2.55 and 2.65 shims, will swap for almost anything.

I desperately need some 2.60 shims(have none left), also need to top up 2.25, 2.3, 2.35, 2.4(one left in the kit)

Time for another valve clearance day?  Sydney or Hunter?

Al
