I was asked by work to go to Glasgow for a week and thought here is my chance to do that tour I always wanted to do.
I left Dublin on Sunday 26th May and headed for the boat (Belfast to Cairnryan). A lovely ride from Dublin to Belfast then a perfectly smooth crossing to Cairnryan in Scotland. Then onwards to Glasgow up along the coast on a beautiful Sunday evening.
Work and rain interrupted until the following Friday at 12 when I was free again and I then met up with my friend on his R100RS and we headed for East Fortune Airport near Edinburgh and the Museum of Flight. Vulcan bomber pictured
This was my opportunity to have a look at Concorde. I always wanted to have a flight on it but at least I managed to get in to it. (I remember the test flights of Concorde as they flew down the Irish sea ..... )
After visiting this very interesting flight museum we returned to Edinburgh where we enjoyed a night out in the Royal Oak. Saturday was not a day for riding (because of the Royal Oak !) but on Sunday we headed for Holy Island (Lindisfarne).
This is a tidal island and the road is only open when the tide is out but all was good for us and we were able to cross.
This is a place I always wanted to visit and we were blessed with the weather (no pun intended considering the location).
Picture of the causeway on the return journey. This is under water when tide is in.
We then proceeded along the coast to Newcastle following the coastal route.
Barnburgh Castle
We stayed in Newcastle on Sunday night and I managed to visit my sister for an hour. Then on Monday 3rd we set off for home via Hadrian's Wall.
We stopped at various locations along Hadrian's Wall and managed to meet up with the Alvin owners on a day out.
Then on to Vindolanda.
Continued on back into Scotland
Cardones Castle
Then Cairnryan back to Belfast and home to Dublin.
The K performed flawlessly for 26 year old bike (and so did my friends R) and not one day away from work .
I hope you enjoy my first trip report.
