Hello all,
I have just checked off one item on my bucket list. I bought myself a K100RS. I had some Japanese bikes in the past but longed a BMW for quite a while. The real trigger was 6 years ago. I went back to my native country and a friend of mine nicely let me borrow his K100RS for a week. I rode more than 1500 kms. Slow country roads, heart accelerating highways, bumpy city pavement. What a fun it was! From that time on I had this lingering desire to get the same bike. 15 days ago, I gave in on a 1985 Alaska Blue RS. The bike is complete. I rode it 80 miles from purchase location to my place. That was also a lot of fun on a splendid sunny day. There are couple of items I need to look into. The speed/odometer cluster does not work and is stuck on ~35000 miles. I am thinking I may try to install a bicycle speedometer for now. The tank lid is not original but is functional, we will see if i can find a spare one. It's also missing the tool kit under the seat. The back unit of the panniers are sun faded. I hope i can coat them to look like the black front side.I would like to see if I can find a belly pan if it exists for the RS. I need to order a little paint for touch ups. Oh one more last thing, the vin # on the bike does not completely match the # on the state title It seems to be a genuine typo from the clerk but I need to get to the bottom of this.
Really not too much to complain about for a 28 years old bike. I hope I can stick to it and take good care of her.
I read quite few threads on the forum already. There seem to be tons of very useful info and nice people to talk to.
I am really looking forward to wave at some of you here and perhaps on the road.
Yvester

Not bad looking for 28. You should be able to get a tank lid easy enough, then you wont have that sticky out thing! Welcome to the forum.

Nice looking ride. Our Aussie friends have had some good results with restoring the black plastics. Do a google search on the forum portal page for plastic paints.

Enjoy and ride safely.

Salem? As in Oregon?

Wot? That's a hop and a skip for me if that's where you're talking about.

Welcome to the forum.

Here is the best cheap tip to restore the black plastic to its original shine.
Go to your wife cleaning supply closet and steal the spray can of PLEDGE.
Your bike will smell good and you will be amazed of the quick result.

Thanks for your welcoming messages. I will try to follow your advices. So far I have not been able to ride due to a twisted back that I inconveniently inflicted myself just an hour before my initial ride. I went to help a friend pick up a roof case for her car and while doing so i pulled a muscle in my lower back. The ride after that was fine because I was so excited but since that I have not been able to stand straight. I think I would be fine riding the bike now but I don't want to find myself in a weak position when getting the bike on one of the stands. So i'll wait for a while and regain some strengths while reading your interesting posts.
Cheers,
Yvester.

Hang in there buddy I have had a bad back since a car crash 32 years ago and the only bike I have been really comfortable on is a K100 LT or the current K1100LT

Welcome! Nice looking bike you've found. But then, I'm a bit partial to the clean lines of the 1985 K100RS Very Happy
