Hi,
I have found a list of big-end shells for K100RS from the following link:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=0503&mospid=47865&btnr=11_1771&hg=11&fg=25
From the manual and micrometer measurement it seems I need white spot shells but there are two references: STUFE 0 and STUFE 1. The shells I took out are notably less thick than they should be and the ref. on the shell indicates "green" shells.
There is no obvious wear on the journals and no measurable ovality. The bike had a knock when I bought it so I popped one set of shells out with the idea of changing them. They were nearly new condition, so I concluded there was a bit of wear on the crank and the cost of repairing that was prohibitive.
The knock has worsened considerably and needs fixing now. I am inclined to conclude that the wrong shells were fitted just before the bike was sold. Either in error in a hasty attempt to patch it up.
I called the local dealer who assures me he is unable to determine which shells I need to order.
He just says "we fit the same ones that we take out". All he knows is a reference in a catalogue. He suggested I contact an engineering workshop to get catalogue parts. Even when charging 8 euros for HALF a big-end shell they can't even be arsed to find out.
This is BMW France's official line. I find that laughable but there you go. France is not Germany. (Germans would be less likely to fit the wrong shells too but that is quite possible here.)
Does anyone know what the STUFE ref is and how I can determine which is the correct part?
Many thanks to anyone who can help.
