Hello sKolars,
We have the old low mileage K100rs 1985. She runs great, mirror doesn't pop off at 110mph and bumps. Great starting, Acceleration, I just love the old girl. I have rebuilt the forks, rebuilt the oil/water pump (in two seals) which included a new impeller and shaft from dealer. Because of course my threaded shaft end snapped off. Two seals because I fouled the first one. But experience is bliss. She doesn't leak a drop. I used synthetic blend oil, 10-40 valvoline. Bla bla bla....
Oil light comes on after the engine heats up and in traffic if I run it with the choke half on it boosts the rpms to about 1100 an that takes care of it. So it is sensing low oil pressure. How can this be??? What did I booger up on my pump rebuild? Or might there be some other culprit? Hit me with your ideas please!
Uncle Jim.

Hi there, assuming the engine is ok, maybe something went amiss during the pump revamp and you are losing pressure or the pressure regulator lost the setpoint or the pressure sensor is gone.
You can begin checking the sensor by fitting a gauge at the pressure sensor port. If sensor is Ok then is time to go deeper.
Hope this help
Best regards
JAP

uj i think jap is on to it

sounds like you have lost the oil pressure releif spring or something similar

is there a chance that the sealant has worked its way into the oil presure relif valve ...jamming it open ?

i think you can juggle the oil pressure releif valnve out whilst the pump is still attached to the bike ,,,,its basically a piston spring loaded

i think there is a allen head cap that undoes and visible just behind the radiator outlet ...pump inlet pipe 8 or 10 mm from the look of it breifly yesturday whilst fiddling about .

might pay to pull it off and clean up the internals ?

Thank you both for the quick response. Charlie, you mention that I may have gummed up the OP relief valve jamming it open.... So if I were to have jammed it open, at low speed it wouldn't allow enough pressure to build up. Makes total sense. Gracias tambien, Puentes. Coño, otravez pa' dentro la bomba. Chin

have you changed oil filter lately ? maybe faulty seal or filter not tight enough allowing pressure loss

could be just a faulty switch or bad earth
just a thought cheers Tony
