Hi Folks
New to the forum and been away from bikes for about 10 years now. Recently I have been thinking of getting back on one. Last bike was a FJ 1200 but I have always loved the K bikes after riding one in the UK back in 86.
I came across one a couple of days ago. It's a 86 K100RS with 165,000km on the odo, two owners, the second one has had the bike for the last 20 years. Tracked down the store which did all the service work and found out the following.
The bike has been serviced on a regular basis when the owner rode it regularly, but has been in semi storage for the last 3 years. In the last 3 years it has only been ridden every 2-3 weeks just to keep it running and it's supposed to ride fine, I haven't seen the bike yet as it's quite a distance away.
5 years ago the tranny came off as some seals needed to be replaced, the clutch was fine , so it went back in.
That was the last time the front spline was lubed. The rear spline was lubed 3 years ago when a tire change was done, the bike went into semi storage after that.
Bike still has the original rotors on and pad are due soon.
The store that did all the work is not a BMW service center but handles most brands of Japanese bikes.
I have several questions -
Are parts for this bike hard to get?
Are they expensive to maintain?
With 165k on the clock what are the items I would need to replace?
What should I be looking out for?
Anyone have a decent mechanic in Perth, better still NOR?
I would appreciate any info or advise folks!
Thanks
Alfred
