k guys ...i think we have hatched a plan

this could prove to be one of the best varied and awesome routes we have tried to date as a group ride .

i commend you all, to join in .

route

via mt lindsay highway south to beudesert .then onto the fantastic twistys of mount lindsay , onto woodenbong in nsw (there are fantasic photo oportunites of subtropical rainforest around mount lindsay and the groves of treeferns palms and tall woods in there )

from woodenbong south towards tabulum ..through urbenville and bonalbo ...just amazing countryside often broken up by surprise rainforest canopies over the road and green moss around corners etc ...real adventure stuff (in my opinion ) the road i mention is not the best or the worst ,,,but it does open out to spectacular countryside along this not so common route .

the road out of tabulum is well surfaced and contains some extreemly good high speed corners of consistent radius and firm tar ...towards drake

last time we visited there, the meals available were of true country fair ...fish, beef ,and all that, options available and not too high a price, but delicious .

this route might give rick an oportunity to join in without the great distances. unfortunatly for alby is a long ride ...with this in mind, im offering to put up with locals at my place, staying the night either before or including after the ride ...ill try to be a good host ..giggle ...just to break up the travel distances involved . if need be i have 2 beds ...erm couches available for this, comfy and with sheets for the dubious .

my first thoughts out of drake, were to progress up the hill to tenterfield ...an awesome track indeed..then off to stanthope and back via the new england highway through warwick etc, which i will call option 1

option 2

the second option was to travell back towards the coast via casino , kyogle and then the back track though to uki and onto murwillumbar (it is a well surfaced road nowadays and kinda took me by surprise went i traversed this path ...not so many months ago ) in difference to what i remember many years ago))

through the numibar valley out of mur-bar and back onto the highway at nerang ...from there an hour of freeway travels back to brissy propper

this track is a goodun ,,,we can stop off at the "natural arch" for a break and the awesome nature that surrounds it on this section ....if you havent been there ...you have to experience it .

at this time i expect an 8am start lunch should be over by 12.30 ish and outskirts of brissy by 5.30

given that we have good light till 7.00 ish evening and allowing for dufus time scales we should be good in any way of thinking

after concidering that some of us dont actually get a good long break from work commitments ...the best option i can suport at this time is doing it on a weekend ...as almost everyone has that time off ... so ,,,suggested date is either sat 29th or sunday 30th of december ...for me 29th sounds great ...leaves home travel time ...plus (pissup) sharing christmas cheer, before going home ..

note ...we will loose an hour going over the border so lunch by 12.30 at drake is correct as its only about a 3 hour run plus stops . but we must get going by 1.30pm their time again ...refuel at either tenterfield ...or casino

Bugger. Will have to miss this one as I'll be in Vic. Motorcycles and a mate with a winery....what could possibly go wrong?

Just had a bit of an epithany.....as we organise local rides in QLD,NSW and VIC perhaps could propose a loop that encompasses the majority of interested parties and if all joined up would be a huge K run.

Of course you would have to have the the ironist of iron butts to do the whole run but much like the" lunchboKsrider" and "Charlies" Christmas run you could join and leave at the distance of your choice.....maybe this could be a Birthday run???...just puttin it out there.

cant see that happeming klompy ...but wouldnt be surprised if ghost who rides would turnup ...giggles ..(onya gordo )

hey a good idea could be to start a relay that covers the nation ...well on the east coast anyhow ...perhaps i could get some special bmw thing ...run it upto ricks place at stanthorpe ...who in turn could pass it onto seanii ..who could pass it onto the newcastle folks then to klompy then rt ..in bowral round about ...out to col in orange ish

we got a serious hole between there and vic though any offers ? or ideas

maybe seanii could just carry it all the way ...perhaps something christmassy we could sign ...or add a badge too a white boomer perhaps ? cuddle toy ...with a souvineer+local badge ...pass it onto halo then to further south like the tasmanian ferry for dropoff in hobart ...launceston or something ...perhaps bushy or other local could pickit up (taking photos as they get it ) ...and tranport the thing as far south as it can get ..

Any day after boxing day is fine, less traffic about on the thursday or friday i would guess.

But if the saturday suits others i'm easy. Got 2 1/2 weeks off so its all good.

I'm happy to take something along on my travails. Just has to be small and light...as Bella is 21kg...plus her tucker and all the cooking and camping gear...and possibly a bottle of schnaps for those cool evenings by the fire.
Better get a move on though...I'm leaving 21st at the latest...possibly earlier. !

guys ...we are talking about all the back roads ...i have been several times over the hill durring the christmas break and found it to be a really good option ,,,instead of the coastal route ...

the only big issue will be between nerang and brissy on the way back ,,,,and we will be on the good side of the highway north of nerang ,,,its usually chock a block south of nerang to coolangatta i have found .. we join the highway as it hits the 3 lane 110 speed limit ...all good from my perspective if option 2 is taken

option 1 ....yeah i agree i wont want to be travelling down cunninghams gap any time over the break at all . that aratula to ipswitch and closer is to be avoided at all cost durring this time .

Saturday is fine by me I will go to Killarney then Mt Lindesay Hwy and meet you just after you cross the border.

Saturday it is then, can't have this ride during the week if Alby cant make it.

I like option 2 cos its more back roads.

Just a thought if you put advancetown into google maps instead of nerang we miss a bit more highway.

carefull rick that road down to woodenbong from kilarny is just ...gs type road ...we should be by there about 9.30 -ish qld time

Charlie I promise I'll be careful and not ride into any big ruts. If we have had rain the night before I often go down that highway to Brisvegas. The rain damps the dust on the 40k stretch of dirt.

It's amazing what we get for hols Down Under in comparo to some. I've tried to explain to my fellow workers here in Americaland when asked and all I get is the blank stare of envy when I tell them we get a healthy dose of time off as they typically get a week (or two) after 51 weeks of work, unless they've been there a while and it might be three weeks. So when I ask what they do with their time off they often tell me they've plans to paint the house. Nice hols. Get away.

After New Years Day the next 'real' holiday here is Memorial Day and that's at the end of May, and on a Monday. In the motorbike biz hardly anyone works Monday so it's not a true holiday anyway. Strewth.
