Hi

I was originally on the lookout for a nice RS but got offered a naked K100 in a condition and price I couldn't refuse. I can get hold of all the RS fairings but according to the manual I have (Haynes) it advises against adding the fairings from an Rs or LT to the bare K100 as vibration can damage them. Is the balance factor of the K100 different to the K100RS?? Seems highly improbable.

Cheers

On the models equipped with a fairing from factory, the frame front mounts has
rubber bushings.
On models w/o a fairing the frame front mounts is rigid.

Welcome to the forum. When you get a mo' go on over to the Member's Intro Page and, well, introduce yourself. Literally dozens of K bike aficionados from around the globe will toss you a 'hoi' and make you feel all warm and fuzzy with genuine K Bike welcome. Once you've done that and after you've made at least three posts you can send a PM to Crazy Frog, our esteemed IT madman, and kindly admin dude-in-residence, to get the password to access the download section, the likes of which you'll never have seen in all your born years. All manner of wiring schematics and how-to's will appear before your eyes. No secret handshake required. Cheers.

Pull the plastic plugs out on either side of the steering head and there will be threaded holes for the RS & RT's fairing's main attachment points.

Inge, thanks for that reply, are they frame front to engine mounts?

Two wheels better, thanks also for that piece of info and also for diplomatically pointing out my lack of adherence to protocol Embarassed now addressed in the intros section.

I've already been overwhelmed by the amount of information available on the site and in recognition of likely numerous visits, it now has its very own icon on my desktop.

Cheers

Fent

Ps Looking forward to earning my download section wings although disappointed about the lack of secret handshake!

Well we do have a secret hand shake but we none of us can find anybody that knows it.

On the models equipped with a fairing from factory, the frame front mounts has
rubber bushings on both sides.

On models w/o a fairing these rubber mounts isn't present.

Thanks Inge K that clarifies things nicely I would imagine that the bushings are a simple retro fit and that inclusion will keep Mr Haynes happy??

Rick G + Charlie 99, I understand about the handshake....nudge, nudge, wink, wink.Very Happy

It don't exist any retrofit kits, the frame lugs is quite different........
Happy MR. Haynes don't care i'll guess, he only got the info from BMW.
Have a look at this.

I'll guess a lot of owners have installed a fairing to a naked K100, w/o a problem.
On the other hand, it is a reason that BMW ended up with this solution..........

Thanks Inge K. It probably would have been easier to wait for an RS model to turn up but Ive got what Ive got and Im sure there is a workable solution.

if you´ve got a basic in good condition : you made a good (better) deal - keep it , restore it ! but no changes
basic models prices are rising - all other go down - so get an RS as well and you´re fine

spacial basic parts as lamp and cooler covers are not avilable anymore and youve got to pay much more for the spares in e-bay than for a fu... RS palstic
