I have been trying to get my tacho, neutral light and gear selected indicator to work, have been using deoxy stuff on connectors etc, and decided to lift the rear of the fuel tank to see if any were hiding there.
I found a white cable coming in from the front of the fuse relay area going nowhere, a white round female plug connector with four wires into it (green & brown trace, red & yellow trace brown and a green & grey trace, and a white T female plug with a red & white trace and brown wire in it.
Any help will be appreciated.
Cheers
Ian

If I'm not mistaken...

"I found a white cable coming in from the front of the fuse relay area going nowhere"
It doesn't look factory, so the previous owner may have done some wiring.

"a white round female plug connector with four wires into it"
Probably the connector for the alarm system (anti-theft).

"white T female plug with a red & white trace and brown wire in it."
It's the connector for the power socket. See the bracket with a hole on
top of the coil cover? That's where the socket goes. Some places call it
a "merit" socket.

Fully agreed with the above. Don't recognise the round relay in the first photo, just in front of the white wire. Alternative from the original?

"Don't recognise the round relay in the first photo"

It may be a replacement indicator (flasher) relay.

Thanks Blakey
It looks like I can ignore the first two items, but with the T shaped connector, should there be a male socket to connect to the female, and if so, any idea where I should start looking for that, or is for powering some ancillary equipment?
What exactly is a power (merit) socket?
Cheers
Ian

Ian, a merit socket is an alternative (European) to the popular cigarette lighter socket. You can see them at a Jaycar store.

...and here (Moto-bins) you will see one. Search for 94900 and 94910.

I use the socket on my bike to attach a trickle charger.

About the round relay, since it`s a ex-police,
could be some remains from that..................

A ordinary flasher relay won`t function with the three switch system.

Thanks for the help people.
It looks like none of these will make my tacho work, so it's back to more research.
If I fit an aftermarket tacho, where would the best place be to attach a wire from it to a coil, assuming that's where it should go?
Cheers
Ian

Where it is originally connected, on number one coil. Have a look at the wiring diagram?

About GPI and neutral light, have a look at this to check the connections.

About tacho, first check the black/blue wire running from the coil to pin #16 at the cluster....also check the cluster connector itself.

Then you could open the cluster and check the internal connections, not unusual it become a galvanic reaction between the clinched pins and the conductive film, due to different materials.

Where your harness connects to the instruments it a good pace to check for continuity errors, also John deere have the merit plugs but I cant remember what they call them

Do you have part number of plastic connector, please?

Sorry, don`t have any part number for the plastic housing.
I guess you have to buy a complete harness, used....if you need that one.

It`s Tyco that delivers the contacts.........you could try a search..........
