For years I had a problem with buzzing from 2000 rpm. Tighten all screws front, rear, everywhere, but problem remained the same. Finally found that buzz comes from front brake tube situated in head od frame, in tube which connects triple clamps. I disconnected brake line, removed brake tube and isolated it with plastic isolation tape from bottom to top. Then put some thin layer of grease, put it back and connected the brake line. Removed the air from system I went for ride. Cant believe no buzzing at all any more, even between 3 - 4 th rpm.

If you want to try be carefull. Envelope the brake tube only once. Except isolation tape you can use plastic tube for isolation of electrice wire, diameter of 30 mm.

I thought buzz come from right pocket in the fairing and tighten it. It was better but not solved. Finally understood its metal to metal contact of tubes in head of frame. Charlie try it

Nino, was that pipe seated with the rubber ring? Normally there's a rubber ring at the bottom and the top is fixed with the nylon nut (so I thought).

Yes, it has ruber ring at the bottom and plastic nut at the top. But, thats obviously isnt enough. Start the engine go to 1,5, 2, 2,5 rpm put your ear near the place and you will hear buzzing.

Thanks for that info
I have a real buzz sets in at 5,000 rpm and sounds like it is coming from the instrument consol, sort of.
I thought there might be bits of the broken speedo cogs floating around but it may well be behind all that.
It's like a speed warning. goes off at 110 klm in 5th.

I meant could be a speedo or rev counterand was horrified. Fortunately it wasnt. Just isolate metal to metal contact in frame head. Regards

9Back to top Go down   bmw k 100 rt buzz from 2000 rpm Empty How to eliminate bar weights buzz? Thu Jun 07, 2012 11:10 am

nino

I believe to solve bar ends buzzing by puting one more O ring on it. I removed bar weight and cut round slot like existing slot ( in middle of each weight). New slot is cca 3 mm from the end (or begining) of inner part of each weight. Then is necesary to put O rings on each new slot and screw weights back in bars.

Short drive - no more buzz around 2 k rpm.

Cheers

Yes, in both case the source of noise is the same, tube in tube, metal to metal direct contact.Isolating front brake tube in frame head solved buzz partially, then few days ago while driving on highway noticed when cover bar weights with hands buzz disapear. So decided to isolate weights with additional O rings.

Later today I ll go for about 600 km drive, from Zagreb home to Dubrovnik. When come I ll send few words about buzz experience after intervention.

Cheers

Just finished the trip from Zagreb to Dubrovnik (460 km country roads, 100 km highway). Nice weather, 30 degr. a lot of bikes on the road (mostly bmw gs 1200). Tested modified bar weights with additional O ring on my bike. Much, much better, no buzzing just a clean engine sound. Reccomend.

Cheers

Hello Nino,

Thank you for posting your fix for the buzzing sound. I have ridden K100RT bikes since '86, and the whole time that sound has bothered me. I tried to figure out where it was coming from, but did not have success. Then 3 weeks ago I saw your post. I used heat-shrink tubing for the sleeve, shrunk it on and it worked fine. The sound is completely gone. Everyone who thinks they are hearing the buzzing sound should try this. Thanks again.

Keep the shiny side up!

John

Hello Johny, where did you use heat shrink tubing, in frame head, or on bar weights, or on both?

Nino,
I have had a buzz for a while, I have taped , tightened, screwed, bolted, shimed, ect, still have the buzz that I thought was the spedo console, I switched out the spedos , still the buz, so this brake line , all I need to do is pull the line from the master, undo a nut on the top of the steering head and drop the splitter, put some tape on it , put it all back?
Thanks
Brian
