Hi all

I have been riding bikes now for 33 years, mainly big Suzuki's (Still have a 1200 Bandit) I used to own a R100RT back in 1985. I have just bought a 1987 K100LT, and look forward to picking up some tips from you guys and girls on this forum.

Rob

Spent 7 hours checking it over yesterday and used a whole tin of WD40, just minor issues, scratched and cracked right mirror, scratched tank top left and a bit of paint bubbling, seat pin does not locate so will not lock, one pannier lock seized on one side, the other two locks on the other side are worn and come open when locked, screen badly crazed and tried a bottle of renuva (didn't work), side panels rattling about in the pin locaters (took up the slack with insulation tape wrapped round the pins) 1987 model 39000 miles.

Took it out for a 50 mile blast round the county of Rutland, engine sweet, gearbox great and bloody hell it handles really well on the bends, air shock on the rear is excellent.

Only one thing, can not see the engine oil level in the sight glass, but all in all for a 25 year old bike I am well impressed.

Good start Rob. the pannels are missing rubber grommets from the locators. They'e cheap and readily available from Mototbins or Motorworks I suggest you get them before the panels suffer.

Can you not see the oil level because...
a) it's too full?
b) it's too opaque?....... if so see the following
Sight glass replacement thread.

Screens can be polished up too if you don't mind elbow grease. Use the forum google search facility on the portal page/tab above and you'll find lots on these topics along with pannier locks etc.

Thanks to everyone for the tips so far. I have just ordered the side panel grommets and a choke lever cap from Motorworks.

Gday Rob and welcome
I have a seat that won't lock every now and then and I have figured out the locking pin under the seat twists around 45 deg or so, it is quite loose. So after about 15 attempts to shut the seat I finally remember and turn the pin around a bit and presto. Not sure how to tighten it though as it is under the foam top.
Good luck
RT

Welcome Rob, I can't imagine a problem with a K-bike you can't find help with here. Knowledge is deep and wide!

The best thing to do with those Bob is to replace them. Motobins have them. I have tried on several occasions at a fix and no luck at all.
The pin is vulcanised into the plate with 2 bolts and after only 25 or so years they fall apart.
I have tried Sika flex with unimpressive results among other things.
