So I just picked up my first BMW (1985 K100RT)
When I was looking at it before I bought it there seemed to be a charging issue
I thought it was due to the fact that the owner had bought the battery at a tractor supply store
It's actually a law mower battery
The way it plays out is whenever I tried to start the bike, hell, when I turned on the ignition system, ALL power died
Even the clock would reset to all zeros
If I hooked it up to another battery or a battery charger the bike would start right up
VROOM!
Sweet
It would go right down the road
Love at first ride
Until I shut off that is
Then it was dead dead dead
Even after trickle charging all night
So I figured there was some sort of loose wire in there somewhere
As I said I'm we to these bikes and have never had a bike with a full front fairing
Anyone see what's coming?
So I tore off the front fairing
Ug
My 1970 CB 750 had most of it's wire connections inside the headlight bucket
Which is why I tore the fairing off
After I got it off I wasn't surprised to see no wire connection
So I pulled the tank
Clever putting it down there
Fiddle with this one
Pull that relay
Hooked up the charger again
Starts right up
Take it off
All dead
But I heard a small pop coming from further back
Come to find out THE POSITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL WAS LOOSE
That was all
Took me 6 hours to find out that the terminal was loose and a bit corroded
(hand slaps to face)
Guess I needed to get to know how things are laid out
Glad I didn't break anything
