The splines on the bevelbox input shaft are very worn. Any know the price of having the shaft replaced or will I be better off looking for a second hand bevelbox?



Matching driveshaft splines atre gone, so I'm aiming to get the drive shaft refurbished.

Has the drive actually failed? The splines on my K75 looked a lot worse than that but kept working, albeit with some noticeable lash in the drive. If you are looking to buy a used FD it is worth looking out for a shaft from the same bike as the splines will have worn together which will result in a beter contact patch than if another was used.

No, FD still works, but drive shaft splnies are gone. Drive shaft is an easy fix though, but I'm concerned there's not much life left in the FD splines.

I would look for good con. final drive with it drive shaft, run this one till you find one, no down time. there are some on u.s. ebay right now.

Your F/D splines are starting to show some wear, but are good for many a mile yet, I'd just buy a second hand shaft from a breaker yard, and if your money covers it send your old shaft over to be refurbished. Some day if you keep your bike long enough the F/d will fail and you can then get a new or refurbished splines set for it, or between now and then another F/d may present itself. certainly you can see the next shaft you buy if it's alittle worn you can bargin him down and no harm done

Seeing as there isn't exacly a glut of FDs on ebay, I shall get a replacement shaft and see how long before something falls off

Motobins have a new spline section, you could get that and have it welded on as many do.
It's heaps cheaper than a new shaft and your wallet will love you for evermore.
