Went for a ride the other day and noticed when I first fired up the bike the gas gauge wasn't working, needle was sitting past the E. After about 2-3 miles it started working again. I rode for a couple hours, turned it off a few times, etc.. and it continued to function. However, the next day it wasn't working again, and this time it didn't starting working after a few miles. I checked connections, cleaned it, etc.. and still nothing. Is this my sending unit in the tank failing, or has it failed?

Disconnect the four pole connector for the tank, under the RHS battery cover.

At the tank side measure between the yellow and the brown wire, depending on how much fuel you got on the tank...you should expect between 3,4 and 110 ohm.

Measure between the same wires on the harness side, where you should expect 210 ohm.

pretty common that the connector that inge speaks of ...is corroded or loose on the socket side of the connector .

we like to recommend a product called "deoxit" for all such connector issues

but in any case , confirm that all the pins on that connector fit snugly into place ,,,many have squeezed the socket part of the connector closed a little more with good results .

when your finished ...make sure the connector sits in a little clamp off the under seat brain ...for strain relief
