You could be correct about that, ground wire for primary windings.

Senior moment, forget that one.

Any colour on the wire, does it look as a genuine part, a picture?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

It could be the ground wire to the iron cores on the coils.

On my -86. this is incorporated with the other wiring to the coils,
but it`s much that is different on the -83 -85. model compared to
the later ones.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did borrow Charlie`s picture from another thread, the iron core
ground terminals is inside the red circles.

does any one know where this fits please Coil10

As it is a brown wire it indicate that it is a ground wire.

As earlier mentioned it could be that this a separate wiring on 83-85 models, someone with a similar model have to confirm.

You could also check if ground wires (brown) is present at the wiring harness down to the coils.................if not, it should be no doubt about it.

If you got the ground wires in the harness.............we still got a mystery solve, I`ll guess.

No other ideas at the moment, sorry...............a picture?

How about you Charlie....any ideas.......you have just logged on........and got a rested and fresh brain.

Possibly worth taking a quick photo of it so we can all see....

Whats the connection to the starter?? With it being big and hefty it would suggest it is for something that will have a large amount of grunt attached to it...

Good suggestion TC, but it wasn`t any separate ground cable at early models
(or K100`s at all?), it is on K11`s and maybe late 100`s.........

the distance between the 2 spade conections seem to fit the width of the coil trminals the other end would fasten to the
gearbox bolt at side of coil or so it looks like it is not a realy thick wire but is thicker than the brown earth wires

Only guessing...........it previous been a problem with the genuine grounding wire,
the easy fix was a local connection?

You got 6 spade connectors at the coil harness?

Hey Rick, have you started to stammer recently?

Also have a vague picture of it...............somewhere way back.

But seems a bit strange on this one, since the ground wire is present in the harness.
But we don`t know the history of the bike.........or (maybe) bikes put together.
