The Western Cape of SA is a wonderful province for motorcycle touring. For the past six years my wife and I have owned and run a guest house in Swellendam, a small town (dorpie) in the Overberg region. I thought I'd share a few images of Western Cape with you...perhaps you might be tempted to have a motorcycle touring holiday over here!

Best regards, Chris

#1 The Road to Ceres This road is one of the many fabulous mountain passes in the Cape in one of the few areas that sometimes gets real snow in winter.

#2 The Tradouw's Pass This is another mountain pass about 25k from where I live.

#s 3&4 The Hermitage An area of natural beauty on the outskirts of Swellendam; it feels like Time is standing still here.

#5 Jakaranda In bloom near the village of Bonnievale (not to be confused with the Triumph marque).

#s 6&7 Van Loveren's Vineyard and Van Loveren's Garden A major wine estate in the Robertson area; the shaded garden in #7 shows the fountain whose source is a natural underground spring.

#8 Fisherman at Arniston The village is named after a British ship that came to grief on the rocks around here.

#9 Winter Surfers The tiny black specks you can just see in the middle distance are surfers in their wet suits. The sea to the west and south of the Cape is cold all year round. To find warm water you'll need to head east towards Durban.

PS. I haven't included any shots of my '75 - but you know what that looks like anyway Smile
The picture size turned out smaller than intended, but I hope it gives you an idea of the variety and beauty of the Cape landscape and coast. Bon Voyage

Friends, I've added titles and some text to the photos to provide a bit of context.

Wow what wonderful country The Tradouw's Pass looks like you would need a sherpa and a mountain goat to get through.
