I can't take credit for this idea - I saw it in use somewhere and thought it worth copying:
1. Trim a large alligator clip with a hacksaw...
2. Attach a good spark plug with cable ties...
3. Test for a spark.
This will tell you if the coils / HT leads are delivering sparks to the plugs. It won't tell you anything about the condition of the plugs in the cylinders. To find that out it's necessary to remove the plugs and inspect / test them individually.
