Hi guys, I wonder if a sump guard - ss or alu - is available? Or if you have a design handy for DIY?

Thanks in advance

Have a look at the ADV Rider site and search on K100's and K75's.

There are some folks that have made their K's into a dirt bike and some have added a bash plate/sump guard. We cal them bash plates...well, because they get bashed!

I haven't seen anyone selling specific bash plates for our bikes.

Those convenient threaded holes in either side of the engine down at the bottom and at each corner might be a good place to consider attaching some form of a custom-made aluminium bash plate/sump guard if you're doing some off-road riding. Keep in mind that they're only 6mm x 1.0 threads and therefore not the strongest bit of the bike. Perhaps rubber 'fuel pump mounts' might help to absorb some of the energy similar to what the early Airhead GS models used.

They are used on the Holden Commodore under the air box or available from most farm machinery places and made by Bareco.

Those mounts are used on Airhead battery boxes and Volkswagen fuel pumps, and any number of radiators. You can get 'em in 6 & 8mm too.

GitH,

Those tapped holes are actually 8mm. My sub-frame picks up on those, also the BMW crash bars.

Hi sensei,

I've just turned my spare engine on it's side and come up with an idea.

Use a plate, say 3mm alum or 1.5mm ss, about 230mm wide x 300mm long, with the end 70mm folded up at 45 degrees.

Fix this plate about 3mm clear of the sump plate fins with 4 right angle brackets to the above mentioned rubber bobbins screwed into the 8 mm holes in the sump pan.

When hitting a soft bump the rubber bobbins should flex and absorb the load. When hitting something big the rubber should flex enough to allow the plate to contact the fins, so the shock load would be spread across the fins rather than the 8mm fixings in the sump.

Well, it is an answer; I look forward to seeing an RT competing in the World Indoor Trials Championship.......Very Happy

Cheers, Paul.

Hi guys, thanks for your advise, the rubber mounts is a great idea and combined with Paul's excellent suggestion, I will try and see if I can install a skid plate when it gets a bit warmer. At the moment it's bitterly cold here and my garage is deep frozen! Can't promise about the Trials Championship....but we are planning a 5500 km return trip from Denmark to North Cape and would like to go a bit off the beaten track Very Happy

Cheers

If you have crash bars, why don't you use the lower mounting plate for the crash bars?
You can mount a couple of 90 degrees angle brackets on the plate, then mount the rubbers on the angle brackets then the sump guard on the rubbers.
This way you can cover move on any directions.
