Hi,

My 85 K100RT has an oil seepage near the front of the engine. Not very much but over time it gets on the

lower parts of the engine. It's not the site glass. It's from somewhere further forward. Any ideas?

its probably the releif outlet for the oil-water pump pucccini .....there is a small hole built into the bottom of the sump ...actually at the front which leads to the oil/water pump housing about 4 or so mm in diameter

it evacuates the area between the water and oil pump seals ...many of us have had to do the replacement kit .....as the water pump seal has to come out as well to fit the oil seal .....

look for the kit .....and you will be needing the new style impeller

Another option could be from the oil pump joint. BMW recommend '3 bond' silicon compound for sealing but I've read of other options on this forum. I once used Hylomar and oil poured out.

Well, unlike Aussieland, the USA is in winter mode and my garage is not heated enough to start this project. So it will have to wait till spring.

Is it true that Foster's is Australia's lite beer?

I have not had a fosters in ten years or more. I think we only export it, no one drinks it

Anyone know what the name of the kit is to fix the water/oil pump?

And some info on the impeller?

We found out a few years ago that if we export it to England the pommies will drink it, get drunk and not go to France. Something for which the French are eternally grateful.

It is about 5% which is full strength by Aussie standards. Our lite beer is around 2.5% - 3%. The best is Cascade Premium Lite.

agreed all , tooheys old (not a light beer) , cascade and boags light. also coopers mild ale is an exceptional mid strength beer.

Here in Philadelphia, which, at one time, had more breweries than any other city in the USA, we have many small, custom breweries. Some would not interest you but I say that a few here would make you feel right at home or really astound you.

It seems that every small part of the area around our city has it's own group of strange looking ,heavy set, bearded, men who have large copper and steel kettles that eminate heavy odors of yeast and malt.

And it seems that every weekend, in the local papers, there is some notices about one of these groups having an introduction of their latest creation. They have strange names like "One eyed Pete lager" and "Old mangey dog porter". You folks might just enjoy some time around here.

Oh, and Philadelphia is a BMW city. Theres lots of the bikes around here.

One of my Aussie friends from Dubbo keeps saying that.

We're in the top ten beer-consuming nations per capita, according to Wikipedia, right up there with our mates, the Poms, and it's a 'cultural' thing here, as we have heaps of work gatherings, sporting events, barbies, and any number of reasons to get together to blow the froth off a few coldies, to rip the scab off a coupla little vicious ones. But most commercial Aussie drop is of the lighter variety as compared to the stouts and porters of the old world and North America, and few breweries are independent these days, being bought up by larger, mostly foreign-owned conglomerates for the investment. Where is the soul in it if the drop we drink isn't made with local ingredients or the dollars don't stay here in country?! That's a rhetorical question, no need to answer, sit back and have another sip.

Well, I spent 3 weeks in Italy last September and a lot of it in Tuscany and I was lucky to have my liver and kidneys survive.

If you think that Italian women look good, they look stunning after a

bottle or two of good Montpulciano.

OH, another question.

I want to pull the cover off the water/oil pump to see if the impeller fix was done?

Do I have to drain the water or oil to do this or can I just pop the cover?

Also I there a complete rebuilding kit available or do I need to order

individual parts?

You just need to drain the water. If you see a nut on the end of the shaft then you have the original pump, so you would want to budget for a shaft as well as the impeller. The impeller is held on the later shaft with a bolt, because the earlier type had a habit of shearing off the threaded end.

When the seal died on the outfit, it picked up on the shaft, requiring a new shaft. The price of a seal kit, impeller and shaft was about £100, a complete new water/oil pump assembly was only twice as much, so I opted for that.

Yes, I had a conversation with my most trusted shop here in the USA and a new pump is $414. (US) plus some hoses and a few seals. I imagine just short of $500. BUT, the pump is guaranteed for 2 years.

My tech thinks that it's not safe to try a rebuild by myself.

Another shop says its no problem.

I love it when this happens.

But I'm going for the new pump.

BECAUSE: If I don't get it right it will fail when I am the farthest from home base and probably in the middle of a thunderstorm.

lol it seeems that we drink it only when over seas ......we cant let our favourite poision be known to the undignified ...tea totallers ...giggle

just to be honest ...although i live in queensland and we have a local manufacturer of brown ale here (meaning (xxxx) ))....queensland is verry prochial (sp?) ...i drink a brew created in them southern states .... and i like it !!!
