The pics in previous do look like what I encountered to begin with. The K1100LT forks had the right hand arrangement in both forks. I ended up with the two being different in overall length after some mix & match.

At this point I am going to disassemble 3 forks again and try to make a matching set.

Even the stanchion tubes are listed as seperate parts, left and right here. The tubes measure 41.7 mm which supports Enge in sayin Marzocchi.

The sliders are definitely different being ABS model. With original and the 1100 forks, I experienced the lower "clamping" to stanchion in one of each when trying to seperate the two.

I thought I had matched internals but this resulted in one fork being almost 5/16" longer than the other.

It is one type of identical stanchions up to 08/91, and another type of identical stanchions from that date.

On the older one the stanchion also acts as a cylinder for the damper piston, and the piston rod is fixed
at the bottom of the slider.

On the newer one the cartridge walls is the cylinder, and the piston rod is fixed at the top of the stanchion.

On the other hand, on the newer type it`s different cartridges, left and right.
Right hand cartridge have oil passages in the cylinder wall, which isn`t present at the left hand side.
Which also is the reason for the different oil fill quantities, when only draining the the legs.

Thanks Inge. I believe I have done the mixing of parts here. Your last post does help nme get a handle on the process I need to sort them back out. I just hope I can get the on set unstuck again.
