I thought I'd start a thread......... Ive had it almost 5 years and like it alot...... I've fixed alot and ridden it pretty hard at times....
alternator, a couple of batteries(3 actually), tailshaft, fuel pump(and everything else in the tank), front brakes, rear brakes, lots of tyres, valve clearances, spline lube, centre stand, rear shock and random elec fault(thanks Mason).Plus lots of everyday maintanance.
The last ride i went on was quite spirreted on a less than average road.(Beaudesert to Woodenbong).Upon arrival in "the Bong"it was pointed out by a fellow rider that my rear tyre was half covered in oil.... oh good, Im glad we havent been on a twistey road..... So we had lunch and it was unanomosley decided we would take a bumpier and twistier road home(the Lions rd)..... Anyway, I actually made it home, but the bike was looking abit (alot) worse for ware..... Blown Rear Ikon Shock (for the second time) and blown front shock (not bad for 25 yo)....

73's kay........... 009

So the rear was sent to Ikon today.... awaiting a verdict.......
The front I'm thinking progressive springs and a head set bearing... (advice here would be appreciated)Chrome appears good.
Oh yeah.... has anyone had success repairing side cover lugs.
73's kay........... 044

This will get it rideable again..... but soon after I'm thinking brake lines and ss discs.... throttle body work(sealing).... then I guess I'm back to valve clearances.. revolving door maintanance.... Lucky I enjoy working on it almost as much as riding it....
Thanx for reading my crap.... Paul

nice bike 73 .....(same colour as mine ....i wouldnt be biased at all ...grin )

looks cool without the rear damper .......hmm frame type monoshock conversion ?,.,,,

i too am in the thinking process of purchasing an icon ...but by the sound of your history .....maybe worth a double think

good luck with the repairs ...we're here if we can help ...lots of knowledge abounds

about the side cover ...best i have found so far is the proverbial contact adhesive ...so far ....but have been experimenting with plasic welding ....only problem is the thickness of the plastic on the sidecover ...heat tends to bend things out of wack perty easy ....and in not confident enough just yet to reweld into "finished lines and surfaces "

just redoing my side cover rear pin mount tonight ....well see how that turns out i guess .

Welcome to the forum Paul.

Can you give us a picture of the problem with the side cover as there are a couple of fixes, depending on what is stuffed (tech term).

A tidy looking bike too!

Its kind of ironic when you get on the WORLD wide web and talk to people just up the road..... Very Happy
Charlie the verdict is still out on the Ikon...... To be fair to Ikon i bought it of Ebay as Unused and definately appeared Brand new.... After it blew the first time I was too impatient to send it to Ikon as I had a ride coming up for Easter, so I got a local bloke to do the work with seals supplied by Ikon . Ikon was VERY helpfull and even volunteered to coach the local bloke through the job..... but alas 6mnths later and its gone again, as of this afternoon its on its way to IKon.
Blakey... I left Brisbane this morning for work, wont be back for 2 weeks, so no more photos. The hooks have been broken since I got the bike and Ive just snapped the main lug on that side..... Im thinking plastibond... hmmmm. or velcro
thanx... Paul

Hi 73,
Great bike and I especially like the colour! My side covers are both held on by cable ties run through two drilled holes. I think I will eventually be buying new ones unpainted but I'll follow your thread to see if you have any success.

Hello 73,

About the front fork seals: I would advise you to buy them at the dealer.
I have few friends who had to change them more than once until they got the original.

73's kay........... DSC01296-1

Bike lift sitting in down position.....
I have 2 handles at 2 meters long which have brackets which slip onto the bolts at the side of the lift.... 1 in 5 mechanical advatage + weight of lift "Top deck" makes it still pretty heavy to get get it moving..... but it gets light quickly.... I,m away working for a week or 2, will post more photos then.

Sorry Mate..... no plans.... all in my head..... pretty simple though... top and bottom frames are exactly the same, with four pivoting legs.

I got my bike back together today, went for a short ride and all went really well (except heated grips seem to be stuck on and rear pads contaminated with shock oil)..... love the progressive springs under hard braking and bumpy roads... steering is much looser with new bearings, big difference.... ready for a descent ride now, cant wait.

Nice workbench Paul, wheel support looks secure and simple to construct using ply.

This might seem a stupid question but how come the rear end of your bike (with no rear suspension unit) in your first picture has not collapsed? Subsequent pictures show the rear end supported with a piece of wood in place of the rear suspension unit.

You aren't gonna like for this but the stand is down and it takes the weight.

Looking at that pic Bill I think the weight of the bike is on the front wheel as normal when on the centre stand and the rear suspension is actually drooping as opposed to compressed. You can just see it's actually toutching the floor.

Correct.... but I had to put the timber in to be able to take it off the centre stand to be able to wheel it into position on the lifter.
