You will like the Sprint fairing. It offers a very good protection and it's a lot cooler than the RT fairing.

Yes the PO installed the Ohlin's shock in the back and Progressive springs in the front. Aside from up and down my private street I have not ridden this one yet....

Are they the old style pannier mounts as the bags look the same as mine and I can't remember what my R-series panniers looked like ? just know the mounts are totally different.

Krauser made those mounts from a crumbly alu/pot metal. They were horrible. I had them once on an Airhead I owned.

TWB, I was actually considering the red like yours, but my wife said all bikes should be black, so kept it black. Those are Kbike LT panniers painted to match my bike, using the composite Z frame mounts. I have a decent Krauser mount if someone needs it (see the 'before' pic).

Not running yet. The 'pulsing ground' for the injectors actually has positive voltage, makes the injectors inoperative, so gotta figure that out. I'm going to go after the starter ground system next, see if that may be causing the grief. Bert is sending me a test computer to see if it's my computer that's acting up. Have to wait until next days off, I'm not like some of you louts that go touring for weeks on end...

I do prefer all black paint as well, but mine came in Marrakesch Rot and I rather like it now. I usually don't go for red paint being a ranga myself and the fact that red vehicles attract the cops and accidents more frequently, or so I've heard.

That's a statistical game. Many hot rod, fast vehicles are painted red 'cause it looks good (think Magnum PI). Fast cars get tickets and crash more, not red cars.

Thats what I love about these bikes, you take a 1985 year bike that is all beat up, clean it up and make it work, and IT LOOKS LIKE A MODERN MOTORCYCLE! You can't do that with most other motorcycle types, they all show their age in one way or another. People can't tell if its an 2010 or 1985. Truly a classic motorcycle design!

You're right, Bruce. An older gent walked past the other day and was astounded when I told him my bike was 23 years old, in answer to his question about its age. I admit it has just a had a bit of a scrub up, but he reckoned it was a coupla years old at best.

That bike is a credit to you, well done!

I`m a bit courious about the golden colour of the engine and heat shield in the pre rebuild picture.
Was it painted or anodized?
Was that some kind of limited factory special?
Never seen that before.

This is the K100 special edition. (not called JPS). The engine was anodized. I think the fairing is a Pichler. This bike is 100% BMW original.
The owner of this one lives in Quebec.

The gold on my bike was done when the bike was brand new, pulled apart and treated. It was done by a fellow named Roger Rueben, who apparantly was a well known BMW enthusiast and modifier. The engine, wheels and heat shield were painted with a very durable product. In the day it probably looked good, but when I got it, it just looked tired.

Bike looks fantastic! I really like the sprint fairings.

That K100 special edition is one of the more "unfortunate" looking motorcycles out there.

Does the owner put a paper bag over his head when he rides that thing?

Maybe he wears two bags over his head...in case the first one breaks!

It's subjective I know, but if you paint or powdercoat those silver wheels to black you're in! I love that allblack look, and that fairing is sweet too. A very nice bike! I've got most of a K1200S fairing and am mulling over finding a naked or wrecked K100 to fix up and fit it to. Here's what it looks like on an older Airhead, an end of a long riding day perspective:

same thing happened to me the other day at tamborine twb ...an older guy came over and commented obout the looks of the bike .....he just about fell over when i told him it was 25 years old ...

its not perfect but getting there ....ever so slowly
