I've had a spot of bad luck recently and the wiring loom in the instrument cluster has melted and the two resistors on the top left (looking from the back) of the rev counter have burnt out.

Does anyone know their specs so I can get them replaced while I wait for the new circuit board to arrive.

Thanks for the help.

Can you post a picture?
On the download section you can find the electronic schematic of the speedometer.

The burnt out items can be seen in the picture below. I'll download the schematic though it's actually the rev. counter as I mentioned on the top left seen from the back. Thanks!

Maybe this picture is better.

Could someone tell me the colour coding and the written code on two circled items?

Many thanks, Martin

Frog,

In relation to this:

"On the download section you can find the electronic schematic of the speedometer."

Where exactly? I went to the download section and all I could find was an electrical schematic for the whole bike, but not the speedo specifically.

Can you point me in the right direction? (I'm still battling to get my speedo to work).

Thanks,
Barry

Does any know what that circuit board in the photo above is for?

Hey there, This looks like the CB that when it dies, causes you to need to pull in the clutch to start the engine....I may be wrong. Can anyone add anything to this. Cheers and kindest regards Paul...Australia

I don't think that is correct Paul. As far as I know that particular CB is fitted within the RPM meter (It holds the gear indicator).

Have a look
HERE

I don't know if the numbers of the CB are the same. If you give us the motometer CB number we can have a look. There have been a few different variations of this card. On the site where the picture comes from it is mentioned as the day counter card.

looks like a pulse buffer-divider and driver circuit to me ..is this the section that pulses the trip meter (odometer) that comes from the pickup on the bevel box ?

it kinda looks as though the input resistor and transistor has had a little over voltage .

if you knew the values it would be a reasonable easy fix given that the ic hasnt been smashed .

Hi Martin

I think I have a spare instrument cluster which may have a board in it. Have you already ordered a spare circuit board? I will have to have a hunt around in my shed if you like? Let me know...

Regards

Mal W

There are two versions of the housing. The first ones were having 7 screws, the later ones 9 screws to close them. Those later ones were fitted with the two openings with goretex membrane. In all fairness I don't know if the goretex came at the same time as the change to the 9 screws.

After getting back from my holidays and fitting the parts for the instrument panel which had burnt out when there was the short, I tried to start the bike today. No luck though Sad

I have the following situations. The engine turning over healthily, however there is no audible sign the fuel pump is working. Should the pump spin over before I press the starter button? I really can't remember! Embarassed

With the ignition ON and the handlebar kill switch OFF, the ABS light flashes. When I turn the bar switch ON the ABS light goes OFF but all other warning lights come ON.

The head and tail lights, horn and flashers work fine plus the fuses are the right capacity and look in good condition.

What should I look at to get the engine running again? I am desperate to get back on two-wheels and also try out my new bike jacket!

Thank you for any help at all.

I have the following situations. The engine turning over healthily, however there is no audible sign the fuel pump is working. Should the pump spin over before I press the starter button? I really can't remember! Embarassed The fuel pump should start running when the button is pressed and run for 1.5 seconds after the starter button is released. Switch the ignition key on and the Kill switch on then just tap the starter button so that the starter engages and then releases, the fuel pump should run for 1.5 seconds.

With the ignition ON and the handlebar kill switch OFF, the ABS light flashes. When I turn the bar switch ON the ABS light goes OFF but all other warning lights come ON. the ABS light should continue to flash until you tap each brake and get to approximately 4mph. the other warning lights coming on when the kill switch is turned on is normal but the ABS should continue to flash until the 4mph is attained.

The head and tail lights, horn and flashers work fine plus the fuses are the right capacity and look in good condition.

What should I look at to get the engine running again? I am desperate to get back on two-wheels and also try out my new bike jacket! I would be looking firstly for some damaged wiring in the main harness due to overheating. Strip the outer cover of the cable to the instrument cluster check for melted plastic causing a short and test the continuity of the wires in case any wires have open circuit. If you find anything suspect try to replace the main wiring harness because it will most likely have many problems or at least renew each wire that has been affected one wire at a time then rebind the cable with tape.

Try to flex the cable and you may find a very stiff part and that will be the first place to look as the melted plastic will bind all the wires together.

Thank you for any help at all.

Check you have spark also

Hope this helps

Thanks for the help! I did put in fresh fuel and enlisted the help of a friend to give her a push an fortunately she started quite quickly. Maybe the battery had less charge than originally I thought. I rode into work this morning, around 50 miles, so I think she should be feeling better now.
