Hi, I have had an odd noise in the sprag area since I change the bell housing, I took it apart tonight, the fingers and internals were dry, I dont think that is right, and I have no idea why it would be, I am thinking maby I put one of the two odd little spacers or the washer in the alt. drive bearing was backwards or what. I am confused.

Interesting find, dug out sprag clutch from 86 compared to 85, and found
that the 86 has holes in the body, between gears, that allow oil flow
the 85 does not. I will use the 86 model.

Ok , solved the sprag clutch , does any one have a source for a photo, of how the little spring locates behind the starter gears that drive the sprag clutch. the fisc drawings show a orientation , but when you put it in it seem backwards.

Two wheels, Thanks, the part I am talking about is # 12 in the top and # 11 in the bottom, I guess I will install on the gear as shown, then put the gear in the block, it seems to fit the block perfect in the opposite orientation, the little tabs are kind of lose the way it is shown, hard to explane but if you have seen it you would see what I mean.

Ok , I had the spring in correctly, so I dug into the output shaft and there was the problem! the rivets and spring were shot, I have another shaft and I just had to change the bearing the old one had a locator slot. One question, when I go to reinstall the shaft in the motor will the offset gear give way to let the gears mesh or do I need to do something as I put it in place ?

I pre-tension the absorber and the idle gear to have the teeth aligned and lock them in place with a c clamp or a wise grip. After this, you just drop the output shaft in the casing and remove the clamp or wise grip.
You have to put quite a lot of force to pre-tension the spring.
Have you checked the pin and spring on your spare shaft? The spring is cheap and replacing it now may avoid have to replace it later.

Thanks Bert, yes the spare spring is like new, I am doing the switch with the motor in the bike, I hope , maby I'll tip the whole bike over!

Hi Bert, I just looked at your rebuild site , you say to put locktite on the bearing race, is that just the front one?
