I have owned a '86 K100 RT for a number of years. About five years ago while on the way to work I broke the indicator cancel switch. I ended up replacing the switch gear on the bar with a new one, which made the other side look bad, so I replaced that too....
Only a brief list some of the things I've replaced, repaired or simply modified.
We have new Hepco Becker Journey panniers and topbox, colour coded to match the new Maserati metallic grey the rest of the bike got repainted in. Rebuilt final drive, new rear shaft, rebuilt rear shock (to be upgraded when money allows), new clutch, alternator and starter units. Overhauled and partially replaced EFI sytem and injectors, new radiator and fan. Upgraded headlight wiring courtsey of Eastern Beaver. I also got the additional fuse panel to use on the accesories circuit from Jim at Eastern Beaver as well. While I was installing all this under the inner fairing pannel, I also aded a volt meter as well. I had an Alpine 6 stacker, which was later removed to make room for a new intercom system and stereo upgrades, which is now being replaced by a bluetooth intercom unit with Ipod, a new power amplifier and new fairing speakers. I had the instrument console rebuilt, but got ripped off, when they trashed the speedo. Currently I'm replacing the entire dash with an Acewell digital unit. i replaced the standard flasher unit and added a Kissan module with extra indicator lights under the mirrors. This unit also turns the indicators into running lights as well. I've also added a hyperlight brake module to the rear of the top box for better visiblity.
On top of the new paint, I also added an RS bellpan to the RT, after much thinking, I now also have a set of custom made crash bars that ressemble the original bars. I have never seen this done before, so it probaly makes it a bit unique. I have plans to replace the seat in the near future, possible something custom to match the new paint? I also want to add a rear pillion pad to the front of the top box as well.
The current goal is to finish the connecting of the new Acewell dash, I decided to go the whole hog with this and have the ability to add a tempreture sensor and upgrade the 5l and 7l fuel lights to a full digital fuel gauage, once I work out how to modify the new sender unit. Hopefully after such a long wait, the old K bike will be back on the road in the next couple of months.
I've probaly replaced most things short of actuall stripping down the motor. So far I haven't seen the need to do this. When I do, I think I'll send it to someone else to do. I don't actually like working these things....
