I want to hook up my GPS on my 1985 K100RT. I want it to be powered on only when the ignition is on. Off when I turn the bike off.
Where is the best place to get ignition power for the unit and also where to get ground.
Headlight? Relays?
Looking for your suggestions.
The connection wire has it's own 2 amp fuse in line.
Thanks in advance.

Just get the power and ground from the front parking light. The power will only go OFF when you push the starter button but the internal battery of the GPS will keep it activated.

Since I have an RT it is very difficult to get to the parking light. I have removed the windshield and still can't quite get to the parking light. Where can I pick up the feed and ground wires to the parking light that might be more accessible. Any easy suggestions. I'm looking at your interactive electrical layout. Could I get power at the fuse #5? Any other suggestions. Greatly appreciate your time and effort in helping an electrically retarded old foggy.
Thanks.

richard just lift out one of the pockets in the fairing ....about 5 or 7 screws ,,,then you can get your hands in there ....right handed ...pick the other one so you can reach in ....

or take the instrument cluster off ....7 screws to remove the screen + 2 screws to remove the cluster - module

hope this helps

If you like to pickup the power at the fuse, it will be fuse #2 (third one down).

Thanks Charlie99 and Crazy Frog. I combined some of both suggestions. I removed the side pocket and I could get to the left running light/turn signal pod.
I picked power from the live side of the feed line and got ground from the existing ground .
Works with the ignition.
All hooked up great.
Thanks to both of you.
