If I am out on the road in 4th or 5th gear and the light ahead of me turns red several times I have just pulled in the clutch and the bike stalls. If I downshift or keep the revs up a bit it does not happen. Is this a problem? Should I not just pull in the clutch like that? Thanks in advance.... BB

It sounds like you're suggesting that you don't often downshift but just coast to the light ahead that's turned to red and have pulled the clutch lever in in anticipation. At what rpm are you when you pull the clutch in? The engine should not stall simply because you pull the lever in. Do the rpms drop too rapidly? Does the bike idle well otherwise (at about 1000 rpm), whether the lever's in at a light or if the bike's just sitting and not in gear? Are the clutch lever and arm adjusted? The freeplay is correct? Get some of the basics out of the way, see if there's binding going on and give it another go.

If I know the light may change before I be there I downshift and roll up to the light slowly so i don't have to put my feet down. If I know I will have to come to a full stop I was rolling off the throttle and pulling the clutch in. I may have been at 3500 - 4000rpm's and it stalls. it idles at 1000rpm smoothly when sitting there otherwise. I will check the adjustments. I was looking for that here also. I did buy a Clymers. I need to use it. My clutch engages almost all the way out. It requires very little movement to shift.

You can download the Haynes manual from here as well. I like it better than the Clymer which is often too much of a "park motorcycle securely, fix problem or take it to a certified dealer, then ride away" format.

definatly sounds like the clutch is binding bob ......i think mine disengages about half way in ......a little "super lube" both ends at the ends of the cable (gland?) makes it real smooth to get it there .

The clutch will (should) almost immediately disengage after the 2-4 mm slack has been taken up because of its single dry plate concept.

that is the way it feels... I am assuming at this point that pulling it in the way i do was a bad idea to start.
