Hi,

Anyone rebuild a Wilbur's type 633 shock themselves?
If not, who is the go to for quality and price in USA?

Here is a pic of my shock. I know it's a 630 series but with external reservoir, not sure of model.
Shock has started to leak, so want to do a seal and fluid change.

I have used this company for ages. They are competent professionals. Based in New Jersey, so relatively close to you, they also handle Hyperpro, YSS and reluctantly, Öhlins. They also rebuild the "non-rebuildable" BMW ESA shockies.

I had one redone by Ted Porter's Beemershop. They probably don't have the best prices but are reasonable and they know Ks.

Nitpicking: Wilbers, not Wilburs.

If the horse can talk then you have to address him as Mr. Laughing

Quick reply from EPM and I will be sending my shock and adjuster to them.

"Unfortunately, we’re unable to sell repair parts for Wilbers shocks due to company policy. If you are not a suspension professional, it’s not recommendable to try a shock service on your own due to the attention to detail required to properly disassemble and reassemble the parts, as well as missing the vacuum pumps required to fill them correctly.

You’re looking at ~$200-$220 for the shock service, $75 for the service on the Hydraulic Preload Adjuster, and a turn around time of 1-2 weeks once the shock arrives here.

Thank you,

Bryan Font

Given current labour costs in the powersports biz, that seems reasonable to me. They quoted me $295 all up on a rear ESA shock for a late model Beemer, which BMW say is not rebuildable. Nudge, wink.

I had them build a to-my-spec Hyperpro rear for my Big Block. It is a thing of beauty, simple, but highly adjustable. The first rebuild, mileage not limited, is free.

For those closer to the west coast of the US, I do also recommend Ted Porter. Get on the phone with them and you will either come away a suspension specialist or your head will explode!
