1.  I'm putting in my oil pump seal and there's massive free-play inside the housing.  I contacted the parts store because I'm guessing they sent the wrong size.  Thoughts?

2.  Is my oil pump shaft good to use again?  There's a hairline groove and it's perfect otherwise.

Year and model? It's a good idea to go to Profile at the the top of this page, and under Signature, place the bike's info there so others are aware of which K bike year/model & as often helps, the last 7 digits of the VIN you're attempting to work on.

Without seal.

With loose seal

Motobins says the OD of the seal should be 25mm, which it is.  I'm confused.  The seal has 2-3mm of free play in the housing.

You must not have pressed Save, or put it in the wrong place, since it should be visible with every post you make. See mine below, and other member's.

Don't just let it default under Profile and then Information, where it's a blue panel, but click on the Signature tab and a white panel opens up for the information you wish to add.

Success! cheers

Now down to the issue at hand...

There are pump variations and the old stuff may not be available any longer which may mean you purchase a different impeller, or not. It's been yonks since I have dug into those variations, things like shaft OD diametre,, but there are others here recently and I suggest a dive into the forum's search engine with simple titles like "water pump seal" or "oil pump shaft".

Watch kennyraceboy, jdpanero. He might explain what could be interfering with your pump rehabilitation.

Well done. That vid is prolly the easiest and simplest explanation I've seen for a thorough going over of the pump assembly of an early K.

I got it figured out.  When I was removing the old oil seal it split into hundreds of pieces and I didn't realize the metal ring of the seal was still in the housing.  On to the next steps.  Thanks.
