Hi everyone

Just finishing stripping the paint off my frame and like a total twat I can’t remember if it is a gloss or a satin finish.

I think it is a satin finish but looking at the small bits left it looks gloss.

Can anyone please tell me if the frames on the K75s bikes were indeed a satin or gloss finish. Ready to order my paint.

Mine is 1995, but don’t think that matters. May be wrong.

Cheers

Ian

Moved from very General Discussion to Your Own Reno.

All of my K bike frames, bar the ones with excess surface corrosion, have a semi-gloss to them. But I don't know paint or powdercoat from shinola. Some espert will pipe in.

I use Krylon or Rustoleum Semi-gloss Black in rattle cans on my bikes.  They are very good approximations of the factory finish.  Easy to use and touchup, no gun cleanup or excessive overspray and not too expensive(the best part).

Krylon has an industrial grade semi-gloss black that is really tough, but it is almost impossible to find.  I had a can of it 5-6 yeas ago and it was better than the already good store bought variety.  Nicer spray pattern, but took a little longer to dry as I recall.

I prefer the Krylon over Rustoleum now because the spray valves on the Rustoleum put out too heavy a pattern, and if you aren't careful, you get runs and sags.  It's much easier to do several light coats with the Krylon.

Krylon isn't available here. Ian: are you talking to RSPaints (https://www.rsbikepaint.com//en-gb/colours.php)? It might be worth your while. I've had good service and sound advice from them.

Thanks everyone

Some great suggestions. I not bothered about the actual paint as I am going to use single stage 2k paint, it’s just that I am not sure whether it should be gloss or satin. I’ve used Smoothrite in the past for quick jobbies but I am going to do it a bit better and more solvent resistant this time.

So it’s just Satin or Gloss, whichever was the original finish I am not sure about. But thanks for all the wonderful suggestions.

Cheers.
