I've had the fuel injectors on Blue, my K100 project bike, refurbished and now ready for re-installation. But a question, other than blowing out the area around the fuel injector with compressed air, is there anything else that should be done before shoving the injectors into place? One thought I had Should I lube the o-rings on the injectors and what with? is there anything else that should/could be done?

I usually smear mine with silicon grease. It has the odd property of being as slippy as all hell and then drying out over time (soaking into the rubber I'd guess), thus creating a really good seal. It doesn't glue them in - removal some months later is the normal heave and grunt. Or just pop! if you're really lucky.

I don't think this will upset our admins but a long time back a solution that proved useful in a tool kit for such applications: a tube of KY jelly.

As with most aspects in life, sufficient lubrication is key.

You only need KY when dealing with the exhaust. affraid

I’ve just installed a new set of injectors into my ‘84 K100RS, I gave the O rings a liberal spray with silicone and they slipped right in. Silicone grease would probably have been better but I didn’t have any.

That's really dangerous. Silicone only has a flash point of around 430C while motor oil is above 500C.

Just kidding.  Even vegetable oil would work as it has a flash point of about 400C and all that you want to do is make the FIs slip in easily when installing. It's not critical lubrication.

Spit would probably work well too.

I use motor oil because it's convenient.

Man it's good to have a laugh, in a year's time I'll still remember that, but probably won't remember anything else about today.

I use engine oil too, just a little.
