Hey everyone, have rebuilt my water pump and reinstalled it onto the engine. This is the third I’ve done over the years with the first two without issues. This one is fitted to an 84 and required a new shaft and updated impeller. I added coolant and overnight a telltale drip of coolant was on the floor. Traced to the tell tale drain hole. Engine has not been started. Drip rate is about one drop every 6-8 hours or longer. But it drips. Any thoughts on what I’ve overlooked? Old seal was definitely all removed, and gear pulled up nicely against the housing with virtually zero gap. I should note that the original shaft was replaced with a non genuine item through Munich MC in Perth, Western Australia, and the old gear was removed and pressed onto the new shaft by a reputable engine rebuilder. Thanks for your help.

Hi its well worth running/riding the bike as it might need a little bedding in to make a full seal. Then check again when its been stood awhile. Hope this works and saves a repeat stripdown

As Moriarti says just ride the bike and keep an eye out. My good friend was a BMW tech and he did my RT. It dripped like that and he said to leave it ride it and keep an eye on it. It bedded in fine and never leaked after that. 10 years in it now.

Sounds like you did a good job!

Thank you for your reply lads. I’ll definitely take your advice and wait until I have it running to see if it leaks. Coming to the end of a restoration and major maintenance program with the tank and plastics currently getting a freshen up. Should be running by Christmas.
