While trying to clean out my switches today the green starter button detached itself from the rest of the switch. Looks like 25 year old plastic doesn't stand up too well anymore. Any ideas on how to repair this? Epoxy isn't holding it with the spring behind it. A new switch is $200 Sad

This happened to mine as well, but the green button perished only in the centre and this bit ejected itself into the nether regions, never to be seen again. I stood there holding the green bit in my hands wondering what I'd use to secure it and feeling well-chuffed I'd not lost it. I was able to use some 3M brand yellow weatherstrip cement ('Gorilla Snot') such as what is used to secure windscreen and other mouldings and such on car bodies. A black version is available as well. I simply snipped a piece of thin hard plastic into a circle and glued this with the 3M cement to the outside of the remaining green button with the hole in it, which allowed a bit of cement to pass through and in turn is now stuck to the red bit below. It has held for nearly a year now. I then sourced a clean, secondhand switch assembly from Motorworks UK for something like, I dunno, maybe AU$45.00 and this is in the garage for the inevitable replacement down the track some time. On tour it's in my pannier...

For those West coast Canadians who can't find what they need in the Great White North, you can always 'take off' and try that bloke in Seattle, WA who sells only used K bike parts. Try http://www.kbikeparts.com/

I bought parts from kbikeparts.com before and was always pleased with its price and shipping fees. I would recommend him.

+1

I've purchased parts from Drake ("Flying Duck") before. He was really helpful, especially when I called him on the phone to get some advice and information about the parts he was selling. He even hand delivered the package to my inlaws in Seattle...mainly to get a little riding time in. I appreciated the extra service a great deal.

This happened to me this year after only 23 years - not good enough.
After a failed repair I went to my regular independent workshop to see if they had any switches with other issues heading for the rubbish bin. They did, so I removed the starter button and placed it into my switch - no cost.

I got lucky and they have my continued business.

Yes was hoping that would happen for me too, but no. I called Shails Motorcycles and they he had an experienced switch assembly available for $65, and he shipped it today. I was hoping just the button could be replaced, but as some of you know you need to replace the entire righthand switch assemby.

Shails has some great bikes for sale too.

So they sent me the wrong year of switch. I happened to be in their neck of the woods today and swung through their shop. Returned the switch, and was able to find another in the 'rubbish bin' as well, for same price dee why paid!
