Thanks for allowing me into the forum. I have my first BMW K100RT, 1985. Haven't had a chance to ride it yet. The weather has been crappy. Only a quick freezing cold short test ride at about 30 mph.

Good K riding around there - as long as the buffalo don't get you.

That's true. I avoid the crowds when I'm on a bike.

I used to visit my aunt who lives in Custer. One day I want for a morning ride to avoid the tourists. Right  after I turned up Iron Mountain Road there was a herd of maybe 40 buffalo trotting at a good pace down the road straight towards me. Since there's no shoulder I didn't have the room or time to turn around so my only choice was to stop, turn off the bike and see what happened. I was pretty sure that I was gonna get trampled. About 20 feet in front of me the bull who was leading veered off to my left and took the herd into the woods. PHEW!

It's the most scared I've ever been on a motorcycle - and I was going 0 MPH. Laughing

That's a memory you'll never forget. Once we had a young one charge out and I had to get on the throttle to get out of the way. And to think some want to pet them.

Bear Tooth highway in Yellowstone, I was making good time when I hit a traffic jam with a bunch of cars watching a herd of bison meander towards the road.  I thought for sure they were coming for me, but wound up crossing the road two cars in front of where I was. Hello from South Dakota Dscn2012

So what RPM do you guys try to keep it around? Seems 4000 is fairly smooth.

There's one in the middle and one on each frame rail.

single mounting tab at the rear most likely early ‘85 built I believe before mid April or so.
on the frame below the seat is the date code example 04/85 or 12/84
also the vin number will tell you if it was Eu or USA model.
The K100 was available in Europe 1983.

the early ‘85 has a buzz/vibration. depending on weather you are riding solo or 2 up it varries. also tire selection will make a difference.
You’ll get used to it and will hardly notice once you select the right gear/rpm.

Yep, it has a little buzz. But nothing bad. Definitely blows the 2006 Harley I had away in comfort.

Check/adjust the valves and sync the throttle bodies to mitigate buzz.
