I just inherited an 1985 K100RT with 93,000 miles from a dear old friend. What a great machine with some great history! I know I'll have lot's of questions soon.
Best regards!

Sometimes the system will log you outafter some time of no action and writing a response is not action till you send but because you are no longer connected to the system the send happens and doesnt postIf you make a long post copy it before you send that way you can repost it if you have been disconnected.
I havent had it happen on this forum but on some others it is very common and the numpties are playing with the forums they host at the moment.

Rick, good copy. Thanks.

Will do what a friend just suggested.

Go to email, write post/send at my leisure, copy the same to a posting on this forum.
That way our site doesn't get a chance to time out

Got it, that the site times out, if one takes too long in responding.

Thanks All for the warm welcome. This must be quite a family! The bike (Chuck) has been sitting since '03 in a garage. After cleaning out the Tank, replacing the Fuel pump (not original) after I got some ideas from your forum, changed fluids, replaced battery, and got running. This bike was well maintained from the original owner. Chuck was running great, but with a couple of issues. the seepage at the rear output shaft, and also from the front what I would guess is the oil pump (oil seepage from the weep hole). While eventually I know I need to fix these, my biggest issue was a hard rattle when de-accelerating. this is until it warms up and after that it is almost gone. I have heard of people calling them a "box of rocks", and this is what it sounds like. I thought it was coming from the timing chain area, so I have pulled the cover, taken off the guides and there is almost NO wear. No rubbing on the cover either. Is this a normal sound that I should get used to? was I hasty to pull the cover? Any other Ideas? I do really Love the machine, and it rides better than any bike I have owned! I get it! Any idea?

there are a few technical bulletins that point towards spacers etc around the engine output shaft gearsets ..
things like the belville washer should be replaced with a measured spacer and that sort of thing ,
which makes good sense to me .
I too thought that the rattles emanated from the cam chain area ....but looking at the mechanics of it all , its some where further back .

Good to have you with us, pop your technical questions in the relevant section as not all the gurus read the intro section and you may miss their gems of wisdom.

Hi and welcome, I'm a newbie myself. I recently picked up an 85 K1oo with/EML sidecar and this thread just made me think I haven't ridden a 2 wheeled K-bike Shocked , several Ks with sidecars never a 2 wheeler, hmm I have to put that on a quick todo. I'm a StL kid and may be back there possibly Glen Carbon in the fall with the rig I do miss running the river road. Great part of the country to enjoy the ride and your K.
