If the gas cap is off of the tank then you can easily rekey it to work with any key (like the ignition key for example):

Use your ignition key and rekey the cap to suit it. No need to buy any key and you just need a small file to do it. I did one recently after buy a repalcement cap.

+1 0n Olaf's suggestion.  It only takes a file and an hour, and then, whenever you stop for fuel you just need to grab the key that is in the ignition.

Well worth reading and keeping a copy for reference of Duck’s instructions about rekeying the K bike locks.

An example of the convenience is when I had a K75 and a K1100 and two different sets of panniers - I filed the pannier locks on both sets of panniers to accept the ignition key from either K bike, thus never needed to carry an extra key for either bike regardless of which pannier set I chose to use.

Cheers

With five bricks having gone through my garage along with at least three sets of city cases/luggage I have accumulated a rather large collection of keys the management of which is a near full time job.  I have become fairly adept at rekeying luggage to work with multiple keys.
