Good Morning All,

I am a new member of the Forum, I have a problem with the wires to the ignition switch on My K1100LTSE ( 1992/3). all is working OK until I move the handlebars when everything cuts out. I have traced this to the wires as the point it enters the body of the ignition switch ( which also incorporates the steering lock ) It could be a disconnection inside the body of the switch or a broken wire just outside. My question is..... Is it possible to gain access to the switch and wiring without having to remove the entire assembly , which looking at the workshop manual involves tooling and drilling components. Even chasing wires on the auxiliary switches is difficult in terms if access. does anyone have any experience of this or can offer any advice please
Many Thanks in advance

The switch is held in by a small grub screw. If you can find it you can pull the switch out from the bottom of the lock. 3mm I believe. You should be able to get it out without removing the lock. I have managed to do this on a k100 16v and also a K1100RS

See below for the location of the switch grub screw

Chances are you need to buy this part. https://www.motorworks.co.uk/ignition-switch-electrical-part-elk05292-1.html

Its out of stock there but the little grub screw is the one you must get out. I had to drop the right hand stanchion to access it.

The ignition itself stays in place. This same part also fits R bikes, different part no because it has a longer cable but is otherwise plug and play. I couldn't find it on motorworks and their new website seems crap to use. They are very helpful if you phone them.
