Pitch gauges might help you to determine the pitch thread, but it will NOT tell you the pitch type, which in this case turned out to be a coarse thread. In the U.S., M12-1.5 coarse thread is NOT common.Dai wrote:Pitch gauges... I thought I was the only one here who still uses those!
Pitch type is a comparative and relative description of thread length determined by the number of threads in a given length. That is determined using a pitch gauge. With bolts of the same diameter, the bolt with a coarser thread will have fewer threads in a given length than the fine thread bolt. To determine the correct bolt for the threaded hole, you can compare threads with a pitch gauge to narrow your search or you can just find bolts and try them one after another to see if they be fully installed without cross-threading.bmwk100rs wrote:Pitch gauges might help you to determine the pitch thread, but it will NOT tell you the pitch type, which in this case turned out to be a coarse thread.
