I'm giving one of the K Kronies a hand tomorrow to replace his low fuel globe which is not working. However before we go to the trouble of removing the complete fairing to access the instrument pod I should test the globe. Is there anyway with the infamous 4 pin connector disconnected to activate the low fuel light.
Regards Martin.

No need to remove the fairing to get at the pod. Just the screen and the piece that goes across. Unbolt the mount and pod as one at the dash pad, you need the screen off to get the cable connector off it.

With a jumper wire between the earth wire and the low level wire of the 4 pin connector, the light should turn on. If the brick is a later model k100 that would be a jumper wire from the brown wire to the white wire.

Thanks on the 75s's it's a pain to get to the instrument pods.  I had to remove mine to fix the speedo needle which for some reason decided to go AWOL. You have to remove the complete fairing and headlight assembly.
Regards Martin.

I have used a paint stirring stick to push the float in the tank down to turn on the low fuel light.  You have to hold it there for about 15 seconds, as there is a time delay that prevents the light from blinking when fuel sloshes in the tank.  Same time delay will hold the light "on" when the float is raised.  I cut a notch in the stick that fits over the float arm to help hold it.

Thanks Gryph but I wanted to eliminate the sender from the picture and just check the globe. I didn't want to pull Bruce's fairing off to find out the globe was fine.
Regards Martin.

We didn't have to remove the pod, the light proved to be functioning. However I was unable to get any readings out of the sender unit. Bruce is now chasing up a second hand one.
Regards Martin.

Check out the page on messing with the fuel sender.  It's possible that the wiper for the low fuel indicator is not touching the metal plate.  Dissecting the sender and bending the wiper might fix the problem.

We concluded it might be repairable but he wanted a spare just in case. If we remove it and find it repairable he'll have a spare. If it proves to be beyond repair he won't have to wait for months for a spare from overseas. We tried sourcing one yesterday, the BM Shop Brisbane has a couple but they are for his own projects. He did however offer to connect one to Bruce's bike and confirm the problem was the sender. While there Bruce tried unsuccessfully to pry one out of him. He has left a message for Graham Jones K Bike Beamer parts in NSW, and awaiting an answer. Motorworks UK will be the next port of call. K bike parts seem to be drying up in OZ.
Regards Martin.

I could do a swap with a working sender from my spare brick.

I had a trip to the Gold Coast cancelled due to the lockdowwns, which might go ahead next year, but it's a bit iffy at the moment.
