I'm hoping to lower my 87 k100 about 1" to 2". I'm 5'8" and have a hard time balancing it on my tiptoes. The current rear shock isn't stock and measures 14" from mid bolt to mid bolt. Is this as simple as replacing it with a 12" or 12.5" rear shock? Is there anything I would have to do to the front to "balance" it out? I've attached a picture of the current shock in case someone knows a way of adjusting or lowering it.Rear shock replacement 20210611

My recommendation: when in need the search window on the Forum main page will reveal much about previous threads on most any K topic. I've just typed in 'shorter shock' and turned over many rocks to this very subject.

Typically folks loosen the triple clamp screws to allow the fork tubes to slide up - or triple clamps to slide down - but this is not scientific so guess work is required. Also, there's handlebars to whack into should the desired 'level' be further than can be accommodated.

Some years back, and maybe still, Progressive made an approx. 1" shorter shockie for K & Airheads. Your favourite motorbike shop should have a Tucker Powersports catalogue - also online - to peruse. There are other, better, brands out there of course.

others have made the point that lowering the rear makes it RAMBO task to put the bike on centre stand. There is a Seat Lowering Kit available but a bit pricey.  At 5,8 myself iv developed the, move you posterior from side to side to gain foot hold Technik. Very Happy Very Happy Elton John type boots can be considered as well Shocked

14" shock sounds too long.

Rear tyre go to 70 profile instead of 80 or 90.

Pull stanchions up 15mm.

Low seat kit option.

YSS will do you a custom shorter by 1" shock for a reasonable price. You will have to modify your centre stand legs, the later straight leg stand is easier to shorten. The side stand will have to have it's rubber buffer modified if the side scrapes on cornering.  The side stand lean angle will be reduced so you will have to be careful where you park it on slopes. As per TWB drop the front forks through the trees. As well as thicker soled boots you can add boot lifts. However not all boots will accommodate lifts, try the lifts in boots you intend purchasing. You can have the nose of your OEM seat shaved which allow your legs to move closer together. You can have your OEM seat lowered.
Regards Martin.

I've only been able to drop the yokes down the stanchions about 10mm before the handlebars get in the way, is this a special feature of the RS bars only?
