Hello everyone, typically it's christmas day and I am looking forward to a few days riding, when I get a good leak from rear brake line. So I need some help again. I was trying to remove the rear brake line from the master cylinder, I have replaced the line earlier with fuel line and a screw down clamp, and the plastic broke off at the master bottom. Bum I said, no one's open here today. so I'll just take the old one off the spare parts RS. Here's the problem. Both bikes had braided brake lines attached by some god awful hose clamp, like a proper hydraulic clamp that had to be cut off with pliers, and of course, I broke the other Master cylinder didn't I.
Anyway, will get a new one but would like to know how best to attach the hoses. My screw clamp was never a real success, even though there isn't any pressure in the hose. What to do?.
Any help would be appreciated. I have managed to do about 400 klm since getting the old girl registered and she goes like a rocket (ish) but would like to be able to stop.

I also found out how heavy they are when I pulled up to get fuel on a sloping drive way. I almost dropped it but managed to keep my leg straight and blow the horn until someone came out. What a goose. I'll be checking out the flat parking spots from here on in.

Just to make sure we are both talking about the same think you are referring to the brake fluid reservoir not the high pressure line to the wheel cylinder correct?

If you have the right internal diameter hose then a simple screw clamp of the correct size will do the job admirably I have had one on my master cylinder for several years with not a drop leaked out so either you have the wrong hose size (you mentioned replacing it with fuel line) or the wrong sized clamp. You need a clamp which when fully open just slips onto the hose and then tighten it up slightly, not too tight or the clamp can distort the shape of the pipe.

The commonest fault with hose clamps is to use one that is too big and screw it right closed to grip. If you do that with no hose present one can usually see that the clamp is not forming a good O shape but a more flattened shape.

I have the correct size hose, and it is a BMW real clamp, but I'm thinking that the master cylinder may have had a small crack in it just above where the outlet hose attaches, as the leakage seemed to be coming from the top of the hose and running down it to drip on my floor, has been very slow until yesterday, especially after I tightened the clamp again and broke the entire nozzle off. I'll check the clamp for roundness. Just have to wait till the parts shops are open again.
Ntg worse than dry weather and no traffic and a non working bike.
