Hi folks,
Does anyone have experience with changing out the first generation seat and tail section, with the grab handles attached to the seat itself, to the newer 86 and up seat with the external grab handles mounted on the tail section. I have looked on the fiche and it looks like the bottom part of the tail section is the same so I was wondering how difficult it would be to find a used 86 an up tail section and put on the newer style seat as well? Thanks!

This is a straight swap, but.....
I don't know how the side panels fit with a never seat. If I recall correctly, you may have to replace them too.

Thanks Bert for the heads up! I was getting all itchy about the seat hardware and didn't even think about the side covers. Gotta check mine against the newer ones.

Depending of the typed of seat you are buying, the hinges could be different. I believe that a standard seat swap will be OK. I installed a K100LT comfort seat on my K75 and found that the back hinge was different. The only part that had to be replaced was the part bolting to the seat (back hinge). The part bolting on the bike seem to be all the same.

So i presume if i want to fit the comfort seat to my 85 k i need to also look for the tail piece and maybe the side panels?
Did they not do the comfort seat for the earlier K's?
